The Good
This hotel was quite well liked overall by its guests, who appreciated the on-site bars, liked the central location and thought it was well priced for their budget. The historical aspect was well pleasing to guests, who felt the hotel was well maintained and clean overall with charming appointments.

Guests who spoke of the location usually mentioned being close to restaurants, the lovely river area, TCU place, public transit and the airport. One guest said, "Location is its best asset - close to the airport and to great places to eat, rent bike and take public transit for further exploring of the city."

The dining, beer selection, decor and atmosphere of the restaurants was another factor that made the hotel a success. Guests mentioned the tasty burgers, exceptional beer menu, the good price of local brews and the super bartenders that made guests feel at home.

The rooms were not really a highlight, but guests usually thought they were sufficient with basic amenities that worked. Guests who had the larger rooms seemed more enthusiastic about them and usually found a good shower and comfortable bed.

The Bad
Guests who were not as charmed by the hotel offered readers their points of view on the hotel's weak side.

This usually involved the smaller rooms that perhaps had some minor maintenance needed, felt dusty or were otherwise not spotlessly clean, which made the hotel feel old and worn instead of historic and charming. Also some complained of showers that went from scalding hot to cold or that the hotel had a musty odour.

Parking was a challenge for some who said it was behind the hotel, through a dark alley and with limited space. Others complained of having to leave their car keys at the front desk, for moving cars that were double parked. Several found a way out by parking on the street overnight for free.

Noise was a problem for some guests. This was usually a deal breaker for guests who had come to the hotel to sleep. They complained about bar patrons smoking and causing a noise disturbance far into the wee hours outside on the street and live bands who came on some weekends and performed on site.

The desk staff were rated as average, with some encountering friendly experiences and others finding rude encounters with staff.

Value for price was a contested matter with some feeling the rates were too high for such an old and small room, and others saying it was good value, especially for the location.
