Overview
Located about a 7-minute drive from Old Quebec's centre and a 2-minute walk from Gare du Palais train station just off Highway 136, L'Intendant Couette & Cafe is suitable for car or pedestrian travellers who prefer a bed and breakfast hotel with a private bathroom and easy access to the highway and public transit.
more Each of the hotel's guest rooms comes equipped with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a private bathroom. Rooms with a separate bedroom, a mini-fridge and a jetted tub are also available and all rooms are non-smoking. The hotel does not offer wheelchair-accessible rooms.
The hotel also offers tour assistance and a free breakfast, which includes juice, tea, coffee, fruit salad, muffins, croissants, pancakes and homemade jams. Public parking is available nearby and charges are applicable.
Place Royale and Quartier Petit Champlain (a boutique shopping area) are both about a 3-minute drive from the hotel, while the Citadelle of Quebec can be found roughly 20 minutes away on foot. The majority of the reviews sourced for this analysis were positive, with compliments going to the hotel's location, breakfast and rooms.
Many reviewers praised the hotel's location, finding it easily accessible and close to Gare du Palais train station, Old Quebec, Quebec City Convention Centre, Place Royale and the Old Port. One patron noted, "The hotel is in the old city and near the train station. Everything is within walking distance".
Numerous guests enjoyed the hotel's breakfast. They described it as plentiful, tasty, excellent, amazing, healthy and fresh.
Several lodgers were satisfied with their accommodations at the hotel. They found their rooms to be clean, quiet and spacious. A few travellers were disappointed with their lodgings, however (see below).
The Bad
While the majority of reviews consulted for this analysis were positive, there were some common complaints about the staff, the rooms and the lack of elevator.
Although a few reviewers found the hotel's owner to be friendly and helpful with recommendations, several guests were disappointed with the level of customer service they received during their stay. They characterized the owner as intrusive, disrespectful and sarcastic, with one guest remarking the owner, "has no interpersonal skills. He's one of the most argumentative, obnoxious individuals I have ever come across".
While several lodgers were satisfied with their clean and spacious rooms, a few patrons criticized their lodgings. They reported worn furnishings, dated decor, no in-room coffeemakers or TVs and transparent bathroom doors creating a lack of privacy.
The hotel's lack of elevator was an issue for a few guests. They reported the hotel having many steep stairs, which was challenging for those with mobility issues.
