Overview

This hotel is located on Montcalm St. in downtown Gatineau and is about a 20-minute walk from the Museum of Civilization and about a 30-minute walk or 5-minute drive over Outaouais River to many Ottawa tourist spots like Parliament Hill and the National Gallery of Canada. This hotel is popular with travellers who want to wander by foot to downtown Gatineau and Ottawa attractions.

All of the 232 rooms at this hotel have Wi-Fi ($14.95/day), a coffeemaker, a hair dryer and an iron and ironing board. Guests can choose between standard guest rooms (queen or double beds) or more spacious suites (queen or king beds). Some have full kitchens with a fridge, microwave, stove-top and dishwasher). Pets are allowed for a cost of $35/stay.

This hotel completed renovations in October 2012 with updates to common areas and rooms.

Guests can dine on-site at La Jardiniere, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. For guests seeking lighter fare or a drink, there is a lounge on site as well. There are a number of restaurants within a 5- to 10-minute walk of the hotel. Parking is available for $13.80/day. On-site amenities include an indoor pool, a hot tub and a gym.

The Rideau Canal is about a 7-minute drive away. Air travellers should plan for a 24-minute drive between the hotel and Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW). The Good

Most of the reviews used for this analysis were positive, and guests were really pleased with the hotel's location and with its cleanliness.

A number of guests liked where this hotel was situated, close to the Ontario/Quebec border, giving quick and easy access between Ottawa and Gatineau. A few guests liked the views of the Outaouais River and said that the hotel was in a nice neighbourhood that felt safe.

Guests thought that they received good value for the price that they paid for the rooms. Several guests felt that neighbouring hotels were more expensive (although didn't mention specifics) and said that pricing here was affordable.

Guests said that rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious.

Guests generally received good customer service from staff, and front desk staff were mentioned specifically.

There were some additional comments from guests who enjoyed the pool area and who said that the pool water temperature was warm.

The Bad

The bulk of reviews used for this analysis were positive, but guests did have a few common complaints about aging decor and noisy, malfunctioning air conditioning units.

This hotel was showing its age, according to guests, who said there were various points throughout the hotel that required attention. Furniture, linens, peeling bathtubs, carpets and TVs were mentioned specifically.

A few guests had problems working the air conditioning unit in their room and said that their rooms were too warm.

Some guests thought that the on-site parking lot was tight and that the parking fee of $13.80/day was expensive.
