Overview
Originally built in 1893 and located in downtown Kitchener, this hotel is popular with guests who want to be able to wander to a number of Kitchener attractions, shops and restaurants by foot, while staying in a hotel with a bit of historical charm. The hotel is a 3-minute walk from Market Square Shopping Mall and directly across the street from THEMUSEUM, a performing arts centre.
Various attractions are within walking distance. Victoria Park (picnic areas, rinks in the winter) is a 10-minute walk away. The location of the opening ceremonies for Oktoberfest (held annually in October) is a 3-minute walk away. Wilfrid Laurier University is a 9-minute walk away. more Although many guests viewed the age of the hotel as a positive factor for its historical ambiance, many guests thought that much of the hotel was in need of maintenance and repair. Guests felt that the furniture was worn and shabby. There were suggestions from guests that there was a lack of detailed cleaning, both in the rooms and in the common areas. There were specific comments about soiled and worn carpets, bedding, dirty light switches, dirty phones, dirty bathtubs and dirty couches.
A few guests complained about noisy air conditioning units, problems with water pressure in the showers and with toilets not flushing.
