Built in 1938, and with rooms and common areas done in period decor, this hotel appeals to travellers who seek historical charm with their accommodations.

Guests should know that this hotel is open seasonally from May to October.

All of the 18 rooms at this hotel have free Wi-Fi, a TV, a VCR, a private bathroom, a ceiling fan and a hair dryer. Standard rooms have different bed types and configurations. Suites have a jetted tub, a sitting area and a mini-fridge. Many rooms offer views of Pictou Harbour. Pets are not allowed at this hotel.

Guests can dine on site at the Braeside Country Inn Restaurant, serving lunch and dinner daily. There is free parking available on site. Continental breakfast is complimentary for all guests. This hotel also features banquet and conference space.

This hotel is less than a 5-minute walk to Pictou Harbour. The McCulloch House Museum, the 19th Century home of Dr. Thomas McCulloch, and the Hector Exhibit Centre, showcasing exhibits on local history and culture, are about a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive away. The Pictou Harbour Golf and Country Club is less than a 5-minute drive away. The Good
In looking at almost four years of reviews for this analysis, most guests enjoyed their experiences at this hotel. They commonly were impressed with the hotel's atmosphere and location.

Lots of guests appreciated the historical charm and ambiance at this hotel. They commented on decor and furniture that celebrate the late '30s, which is when this hotel was built. 

Many guests liked this hotel's proximity to the harbourfront and appreciated being able to stroll along the water and access shops and restaurants within walking distance. 

Price point was a draw for a number of guests, who commented favourably on the room rate. Several guests found the rates to be very reasonable.

Staff were warm and friendly, according to guests. Front desk staff were noted as being particularly helpful.

A number of guests commented favourably on the grounds surrounding the hotel and appreciated the well-maintained green space. One guest described the grounds as park-like.

There were a number of comments from guests who said that the food in the on-site restaurant was delicious. The menu was innovative and fresh and made good use of local ingredients and dishes. 
The Bad
Based on the reviews used for the analysis, which dated back almost four years, most guests had more positive than negative things to say about this hotel. There were a few commonly voiced complaints that mostly centred on the size of the rooms and on water in the showers.

While many guests thought that the rooms were charming in terms of decor, several guests said that the rooms were tiny and difficult to move around in. Some guests said that the bathrooms were small as well.

A number of guests complained about weak water pressure, a lack of hot water as well as a discolouration of the water which interfered with their ability to take a shower.

A few guests said that beds were excessively hard and uncomfortable.
