Overview

This seasonal (open from May through October) hotel has a number of on-site amenities and activities, including harbour cruises, boats, water sports and children's programs and is well-suited for guests who seek resort-style accommodations.

All rooms provide free Wi-Fi, a coffeemaker, a hair dryer and an iron and ironing board. Some offer balconies and/or verandas and/or a fireplace. Standard rooms offer river views and have queen beds. Chalets have a wood-burning stove, a mini-fridge and king, queen or double beds. Some of the chalets are pet friendly. Cottages are available with four bedrooms, each with its own TV and bathroom and are furnished with double beds.

Guests can dine on site at the Riverside Dining Room, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Guests seeking a drink or lighter fare can visit the Lone Cloud Lounge for lunch and dinner daily. On-site amenities include free parking, marina services, a heated indoor pool, two whirlpools, a sauna, a gym, a tennis court, outdoor shuffleboard, a basketball court and bicycles.

This hotel is in a relatively isolated area, but is well-suited for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking and observing wildlife. It is just over an hour's drive from Antigonish and just under a two and a half hour drive from Halifax. (All distances and travel time estimates: Google Maps)

The Good

The bulk of reviews used for this analysis were favourable and guests generally enjoyed their stay. A number of guests were repeat visitors.

Many guests commented favourably on the hotel's riverside setting. They said it was peaceful, quiet and afforded scenic views from many of the rooms and common areas. Guests described their stay at this hotel as restful.

The host of on-site activities and amenities were popular with guests who felt that having so many leisure options enhanced their stay. Guests enjoyed wandering the hiking trails, evening ice cream social, outdoor chess and using the pools and recreation centre.

Staff were efficient and service-minded, according to guests. Several commented on how helpful and personable staff were.

Rooms were clean, comfortable and well-maintained, according to guests.

The Bad

Most of the reviews used for this analysis were positive and guest complaints were not common. There were a handful of criticisms that did not seem to be reflective of overall guest opinion.

Guests on the second floor found bringing luggage up the stairs a challenge and wished that there had been an elevator.
