Many guests left positive reviews of this hotel and enjoyed their stays.

The location was considered excellent for being right downtown, close to the restaurants and pubs of George Street, the harbour and even Hwy 2 for accessing area attractions.

The rooms, although getting older, were frequently described as clean, with comfortable beds and some guests who got to stay on higher floors were pleased with the views of the harbour from their rooms.

Many seemed to appreciate the staff of this hotel, who guests said were very helpful and who provided a happy atmosphere.

Some guests enjoyed dining on site and claimed it was authentically Newfoundland cuisine.

Occasionally guests brought up their disappointments or concerns.

Although many guests thought they had obtained a good price, many also thought that the room rates were too expensive. According to these guests, the rooms were dated, the carpets were dirty, smelled and were showing stains and wear. Others pointed to chips, scrapes and scratches that needed attention and a lack of more modern amenities such as data ports, convenient light switches and more electrical outlets. Some also complained of dark rooms with poor lighting in the bedroom area and bathroom.

Guests who were looking for more value sometimes complained about the food prices in the restaurant, expensive drinks, a lack of a free breakfast, no small breakfast choice for small children, and extra parking charges.

There were other irritations also for guests who were expecting better amenities and services for the room price. These complaints included: low water pressure in the shower, poor fixtures in bathroom, uncomfortable bed, fridge leaking on the floor, pillows not comfortable, no utensils in the kitchen and no in-room safe.
