Overview

About the hotel: This older landmark hotel is situated on a green belt, near walking and biking trails, overlooking the St. John River in downtown Fredericton. Very centrally located, the hotel is surrounded by restaurants and boutique shops. The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is adjacent and the Fredericton Playhouse theatre is across the street.

This smoke-free hotel has 168 rooms on 7 floors with elevator access.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, free local calls, a flat screen TV with cable and pay-per-view movies, a coffeemaker, a desk, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and climate control.

Some rooms include a sofabed, 1 or 2 separate bedrooms, a large living room, a Keurig coffeemaker, a mini-fridge, a dining room, 2 bathrooms, a dining room, and a 2-person hot tub, bathrobes and turndown service. Accessible rooms are available.

The Good

Overall the hotel has received good scores but guests preferred the renovated rooms.

Guests who obtained the renovated rooms were pleased and described them as clean, updated and spacious with comfy beds. Some of the rooms had lots of windows and views of the river.

The location was right downtown near restaurants, galleries, shops, a Saturday’s farmers market, and the city's convention centre.

Staff were welcoming and helpful.

The restaurants on site were a highlight for some guests who found delicious and affordable meals.

Guests also liked: great shampoo/toiletries, a good selection of local craft beers on tap, an enjoyable pool that was 8 feet deep at the deep end and the relaxing hot tub.

The Bad

Some guests offered negative feedback.

Recent room complaints were: stained carpet, a small room with bed up against the wall, view of roof, small towels and dated décor.

Noise disturbance was mentioned from: kids running around the halls, neighbouring guests, construction vehicles and large buses nearby.

Other comments found were: floor around pool is very uneven (slipping hazard), meeting room was freezing in May, smell of chlorine from hot tub, room rates expensive and hallways smell musty.
