Overview
This property is situated on Portage Avenue (Trans-Canada Highway) adjacent to the Polo Park Shopping Centre with over 200 stores and provides a free airport shuttle to Winnipeg's international airport (YWG), a 10-minute drive away. With family suites that include bunk beds and an indoor pool, kiddie pool and waterslide, this hotel caters to guests travelling with children.
more The Viscount Gort is 100% smoke-free and all rooms include free Wi-Fi, free local calls, a coffeemaker, a flat screen TV with pay-per-view movies, a mini-fridge, a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board, a work desk and individual climate control. Select rooms also include a private balcony. Rooms are furnished with two double beds, two queen beds or one king bed.
Suites provide more spacious accommodations and also include free bottled water, bathrobes, a Keurig coffeemaker, HD LCD TVs, a microwave and a sofabed. Two-bedrooms suites have a bedroom area separated by french doors. Suites may be furnished with one king bed or two queen beds. Family room suites feature one bedroom with a king bed and a second bedroom with two sets of bunk beds (accommodating up to 4 children). There are jacuzzi suites available.
Free covered and uncovered parking is available on site and pets are permitted in select rooms for an additional fee of $10 per night or $25 for 3 nights.
The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Average Joe's, the on-site sports bar, features NFL and NHL specialty channels and serves lunch, dinner and alcoholic beverages. This property also offers a gaming lounge (VLTs) with several TVs and a billiards table. Room service is available daily from 7 am to 9 pm.
Other on-site amenities include an indoor pool, a kiddie pool, a waterslide, a hot tub, free newspapers, wine and flower service.
A free airport shuttle service is available daily from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. The service operates on demand and travel to and from the airport must be arranged with the front desk directly. The hotel also provides free shuttle service to the MTS Centre.
The Canad Inns Stadium (home of the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers) is 3 minutes away by car, while the The Winnipeg International Airport (YWG) is a 10-minute drive away. Downtown Attractions, such as the MTS Centre (arena and concert venue), The Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet are all accessible within an 11 minute drive. The Bad
Some complaints surfaced in the reviews that were read for this editorial, although it seems that they were somewhat scattered throughout the reviews.
more A few folks found the hotel dated in areas and found their rooms to be a little basic, with beds that were not all that comfortable, rooms a little dark, and with a musty smell revealing a formerly smoking hotel. It has been renovated, but is still a work in progress.
There were some guests who commented on the Wi-Fi and found it to work and about an equal number of guests who said it didn't.
A couple of guests found the buffet to be overpriced at $20 per person, although others really enjoyed it and felt it was a good value. Some stated that breakfast could be purchased at just under $5. Others were disappointed that breakfast was not free.
Leaving westward from the hotel was awkward according to a few guests, and there was the odd complaint over tight underground parking and not enough winter plug-ins for all spots.
One guest was disappointed that the shuttle to the airport did not operate at 5 am.
A few guests found noise disturbances and cited the following: from the traffic on Portage Avenue, kids in the pool area, patrons of the bar area and from other guests.
