Overview

Sandman Hotel and Suites Winnipeg Airport is located at 1750 Sargent Avenue, just a 6 minute drive to Winnipeg's international airport and an 11-minute drive to downtown Winnipeg.

The non-smoking property is comprised of 4 storeys, 2 elevators and 210 guest rooms and suites. Some smoking rooms are available and pets are allowed for a $10 surcharge per night, per pet, with a 2 pet maximum in smoking rooms only. Pets of all sizes are allowed.

Basic or Standard rooms include: 2 double beds with pillow top mattress and premium bedding, 27" television with pay-per-view movies, work desk with ergonomic chair, free wireless and wired high-speed Internet with computer data port, in-room AC and heating unit, alarm clock radio, coffeemaker with complimentary coffee and tea, hair dryer, ironing board with iron, free local calls with voice mail, and complimentary bathroom toiletries.

Other more spacious rooms offer additional room amenities such as mini-fridge, microwave, pull-out sofa and kitchenette with sink and dishware.

Complimentary hotel amenities for all guests include: a 24 hour business centre, airport shuttle, fitness facility, indoor heated pool and whirlpool, and outdoor parking.

Food facilities include Denny's 24 Hour Restaurant and Chop Steakhouse Bar. In-room dining is available from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.

The MTS Centre, a venue for sports and concerts, and the Portage Place Shopping Centre with IMAX Theatre are downtown, about 12-minute drive from the hotel. The Forks Market and River Walk with a gallery of craft and gift stores, along with good patio dining in the summertime and museums should take about 15 minutes to reach by car. Polo Park Shopping Centre with over 200 shops, plus services and restaurants is only a 4-minute drive from the hotel.

The Good

Guests typically enjoyed their stay at the Sandman Hotel in Winnipeg and many made mention of planned returns.

Many guests thought the hotel was conveniently located to the airport, some stating the added convenience of a free shuttle service to the airport and also that the hotel offered long-term parking stopovers for those flying out of Winnipeg (sometimes included in the room rate).

The parking lot and location was also considered to be safe according to guests. Some guests also praised the hotel's proximity to Polo Park Shopping Centre, downtown Winnipeg and the Perimeter Highway.

The on-site restaurants received a lot of compliments from the guests who found the food to be very good and enjoyed the convenience of having these restaurants attached to the hotel.

Several guests commented favourably regarding the modern decor of the hotel, the beautiful appearance of the lobby, and the well furnished and modern guest rooms.The rooms were considered to be very clean, quiet and comfortable with new and ultra comfy beds.

The Bad

The staff received mixed reviews, in the reviews used for this report. Some guests considered them to be rude and vowed never to return to the hotel and some guests praised the friendliness and competence of the staff. By far the great majority of the guests enjoyed the staff, however, and gave them good reviews.

Thin and rough towels was second on the list of complaints with a few people raising the issue.

There were a few guests who complained about the location of the indoor pool. They claimed to have had to walk through the lobby and both restaurants to get to the pool. One guest also complained that there was no seating provided in the pool area.
