Overview

About the hotel: This budget hotel is just off Hwy 97 and about a 5-minute drive to the city centre. Guests with kitchen suites can access groceries next door at Save-on-Foods, and guests who prefer to dine out will find a large selection of restaurants within a 7-minute walk.

The hotel offers 111 smoke-free rooms in 2 buildings. The main building has 2 floors with no elevator and the Sandman Suites building has 4 floors with elevator access.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, cable TV, a coffeemaker, a desk, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and climate control.

Some rooms include a sofabed, 1 or 2 separate bedrooms, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, oven, cookware, dinnerware) and a washer and dryer.

Rooms are furnished with 2 double beds, 1 queen bed or 1 king bed.

Free parking is available on site.

Pets can stay for $10 per pet, per night.

Free coffee is offerred in the lobby.

The Good

Guests provided mixed scores in the reviews overall, with some travellers finding the hotel serviceable.

The staff seemed to be the highlight, with guests saying only good things about them. They were friendly and accommodating, doing all they could to make guests' stays pleasant, and one guest said they were easy to talk to.

Wi-Fi worked well and got a high score from online surveys.

Guests liked the location, close to the highway and town and it was very easy to get groceries and visit nearby restaurants on foot.

"Beds and pillows makes you forget that you're not home anymore." was how a few guests felt about the comfortable beds on site.

And although the rooms received a fair amount of criticism, some guests found them clean, updated with nice decor, good coffee, good shower pressure and fairly quiet.

Denny's was convenient, with friendly and quick service and offered decent food at decent prices.

The Bad

Guests who left negative reviews complained about several aspects of the stay, but most of all they were displeased with the poor job that housekeeping did. Guests cited furniture, walls, hallway carpets and stained bed covers as needing attention. It appears from comments that guests may have also been given unserviced rooms.

There were some recent complaints about small maintenance issues as well, but nothing too drastic but still inconvenient for guests who had to change rooms. Issues cited were: toilet did not flush, towel rack falling off, and closet doors falling off.

As far as amenities go, guests were displeased to not have mini-fridges and microwaves in their rooms, glitchy TV, ugly bedspread, ineffective and noisy AC units, rooms that were described as dark, or small and the typically small Sandman bathroom.

Guests found the pool area unappealing. It was in the basement, which was dark and gloomy and a couple of guests said it was too cold. No hot tub on site was a disappointment for a few guests and someone said the fitness room was small with only two machines.

No elevator and no help with luggage was a problem for some guests.

And a few guests found it noisy. They cited first floor rooms, rooms near the stairway, and neighbouring rooms.
