About the hostel: This hostel provides a safe and comfortable stay right downtown, a 4-minute walk from Victoria’s city centre.

The smoke-free and pet-free hostel has 80 private and dorm-style rooms on 4 floors with no elevator access.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a window-mounted fan for fresh air and a private or shared bathroom.

Some rooms include cable TV, lockers, a sink with counter and cupboards, a full kitchen and a work/study area.

Rooms are furnished with 2 or more bunk beds, 1 double bed or 1 queen bed.

Outdoor parking is on site for $10 per day.

A free continental breakfast with boiled eggs is offered from 8 am to 10 am.

Restaurant on site: Ocean Island Cafe Lounge serves dinner and drinks and features live music. Free dinner is offered every night from 6 pm to 8 pm. A free cocktail is offered from 8 pm to 10 pm.

Off-site restaurants: a Tim Hortons, Shine Café, John’s Place, The Mint and Yates Street Taphouse are all within a 4-minute walk.

Hostel amenities include a 24-hour front desk, a computer ($2 for 1hour), a common kitchen, a common lounge, vending machines, bike storage, luggage storage, lockers in hallway, an ATM, free newspapers and a guest laundry with iron and ironing board.

The Market on Yates offers groceries a 6-minute walk. The Bay Centre mall is also 6 minutes on foot. The Inner Harbour is about an 8-minute walk from the hostel. University of Victoria is 13 minutes by car. The BC Legislature is a 16-minute walk. The Royal BC Museum is a 14-minute walk. Butchart Gardens is 24 minutes by car.

The Good
Guests typically enjoyed their stay.

Rooms were very clean, and well maintained, and many found comfy beds. 

Guests liked the location. It was walking distance to shops, groceries, restaurants and downtown attractions. The bus stop was right outside the hostel.

Staff were welcoming, informative and very friendly.

Guests appreciated the free breakfast and dinner on site. Some found the dinners tasty with a nice bar.

Some thought the hostel was reasonably priced for downtown Victoria.

Guests also liked: bathrooms were clean and plentiful, secure key access to each floor, the lounge is fun and cheerful, live local entertainment and games night.

The Bad
Some guests offered negative feedback.

Room complaints found were: poor Wi-Fi, small rooms, dorm rooms were cramped, hot rooms with no AC and tiny fans (although the hotel has recently installed window fans), and smoke came into room from guests smoking outside.

Noise transferred from: the street, the hallway, the staircase and guests in overhead rooms.

Some commented about the area which was deemed safe enough, although there were many homeless there.

Other comments found: the hostel felt hectic and busy at times, common area not that relaxing and breakfast could use some variety.
