Overview

About the hotel: This older walk-up hotel is located on Highway 95, a 2-minute drive from the city centre. It offers a budget room with a free hot breakfast, a modest indoor pool and on-site dining, making it a convenient stopover for car travellers.

The hotel has 100 rooms (one room allows smoking) on 3 floors with no elevator.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, free local calls, cable TV, a coffeemaker, a mini-fridge, a microwave, a desk, windows that open, and climate control. (Available upon request if not already in the room are: an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer.)

Some rooms include a sofabed, a flat screen TV, and modern duvet bedding.

Rooms are furnished with 1 or 2 queen beds or 1 king bed.

Free parking is available on site.

Pets are welcome for $20 per pet, per night, to a maximum of $100 per stay.

Included in some rates: is a free breakfast buffet with hot and cold choices.

Restaurants on site:

Skylight Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Studio Lounge is open for lunch and dinner and features sports viewing, live entertainment and The Comedy Shop.

What's nearby? Mall shopping is available at the Tamarack Centre is an 11-minute walk away, or 1-minute drive. Cranbrook RecPlex, (home the Kootenay Ice WHL team), is a 3-minute drive. Canadian Museum of Rail Travel is a 2-minute drive. Fort Steele Heritage Town is a 2-minute drive from the hotel.

The Good

Guests typically enjoyed their stay finding the rooms and restaurant well priced.

Rooms were clean with comfortable beds.

The location was easy to find and conveniently located near restaurants, downtown and a shopping mall.

The staff were usually friendly and accommodating.

Guests often enjoyed the free (for some rates) breakfast, some considering it better than most hotels.

The restaurant was also commended for its food, pricing and stand-up comedy show.

Some guests found the pool area to be clean and enjoyable.

The Bad

Guests offered negative feedback in the reviews.

Recent room complaints were: shower and tub did not drain, small/huge pillows, poor quality TV picture, only 2 towels given for 4 guests, room was small, no hair dryer in room, and bathroom floor had hair on it.

Several complained of noise disturbance. They cited traffic noise, large trucks, the railway, noisy guests and AC units.

Hotel amenities were basic. Some guests noted that the building lacked an elevator, had many confusing stairways and lacked a grassy area for dogs.

Some guests did not like the pool. They said it was boring, too cold, outdated and in the basement in a dark setting.

Some guests complained of unfriendly staff.
