Overview

The Days Hotel and Suites, formally a Best Western property, is situated on Highway 16/Yellowhead Trail and is within a 1-minute drive of the Saskatchewan border. This hotel is well located adjacent to the Lloyd Mall with drug store, grocery store and fast food restaurants, and only 10 minutes to the airport.

Both smoking and non-smoking accommodations are available. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, a 32" flat screen TV, a microwave, a mini-fridge, a coffeemaker, a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board and individual climate control. Rooms are furnished with one of the following configurations: two double beds, one queen bed, one queen bed and a sofabed, two queen beds or one king bed and a sofabed.

Suites provide more spacious accommodations with a separate sitting area and select suites also include a jetted tub. Suites are furnished with either one queen bed and a sofa bed or one king bed and a sofabed.

Free parking is available on site and pets are not permitted.

The on-site Louis Place Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. This hotel also has an on-site cocktail lounge, which features karaoke. This hotel has an on-site beer and wine store (open from daily from 10 am to 11 pm).

Other on-site amenities include a fitness centre, an indoor pool, guest copy and fax service, ice machines, free newspapers and banquet/conference rooms.

The Lloydminster Greyhound bus terminal is 3 minutes away by car or an 11-minute walk. The Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre is 2 minutes away by car. A big box shopping area, including some chain restaurants, is also about a 2-minute drive away.

The Bud Miller All-Season Park (cross-country skiing, skating, hiking, fishing and tennis) and the Lakeland College are both about a 5 minutes away by car. The Civic Centre arena is a 7-minute drive away, while the Lloydminster Airport (YLL) is 10 minutes away by car. (All walking and driving time estimates: Google Maps)

It was confirmed by a front desk agent on September 4, 2013, that the hotel is always updating their facilities, and the "new wing" was more recently built in 2008 and offers suites.

The Good

Among the recent reviews used for this analysis, many guests described overall positive experiences at this hotel. Reviewers seemed highly pleased with the customer service they received. The front desk staff were frequently complimented (sometimes mentioned by name) and were described as accommodating and eager to help.

Many guests described their rooms as clean and comfortable, some said quiet and some noted that their beds were comfortable. Some guests described rooms that had been recently updated. There were a couple of reviewers that appreciated the "good-sized TVs".

The restaurant on site was considered by many to add convenience to their stay and many commented favourably on the food and prices.

Several reviewers appreciated the centrality of this hotel's location.

A few guests reported that the pool and fitness area were clean and well-maintained by the hotel.

Many guests said they would return to this hotel.

The Bad

Although most guests described positive experiences and commended the hotel, in recent online reviews consulted for this editorial, some also offered constructive criticism in areas they thought that the hotel could improve their service, and some voiced complaints.

Most complaints centred around the room rates of the hotel and the fact that breakfast was not included in the room rate. Although some guests realized that hotel prices were quite expensive in this city, they were still disappointed in the high rates.

A couple of guests complained about smelling cigarette smoke in the halls near to the lobby and restaurant. One guest maintained that the ventilation system in their room actually drew in smoke from smoking rooms.

There were a few guests who said that the in-room temperature controls were ineffective but these seemed to come up only during the hot weather.

Although some reviewers complimented the hotel about looking so new and updated, there were some recent complaints about dirty and stained carpets, armchairs and couches. It appears that some rooms may be newer than others as one guest advised to choose the "new wing".

Also, there were a few guests who either thought their rooms were small, or strangely configured due to the bathroom sink being located outside of the bathroom.
