This hotel (formerly the Amethyst Lodge) was renovated and reopened in 2014 under a new name, The Crimson Jasper.
Guests who reviewed this hotel since its makeover were well pleased with the cleanliness and the modern feel of the hotel. They typically found the rooms to be spacious and well appointed with nice bathrooms, and many spoke of enjoying their balconies with mountain views. Many also enjoyed restful sleep at the hotel.
The location was a guest pleaser. It was close to the VIA Rail station, a grocery store, restaurants and shops in the Jasper townsite. Guests also enjoyed seeing herds of elk and other wildlife walking around.
Although the staff sometimes failed to make a good impression, overall guests seemed satisfied with them. The restaurant's breakfast buffet received some good comments as well.
Guests seemed pleased for the most part, but occasionally some critique found its way into the reviews.
It seems that the front desk staff were sometimes overwhelmed with bus tours coming into the hotel and sometimes reviewers found them to be somewhat lacking in friendliness and not as informative as they would have liked.
Guests occasionally mentioned that the restaurant prices and room prices were somewhat higher than they were used to paying, but then again it was Jasper and they realized that prices were higher in the national park.
Several guests found the hotel noisy. They complained loudly about long freight trains passing by, noise from the highway and also the AC units.
A few guests had difficulty finding a parking spot, and said you either had to get a spot early or park on an adjacent street, which was inconvenient.
A few guests found their rooms a little small. One reviewer put it this way, "Room was clean, but minimum furnishings and not a lot of space."
