The hotel has two towers, the south tower is renovated and the north tower is not. Guests who stayed in the renovated rooms gave the hotel excellent scores. They judged the hotel to be very clean and well maintained with lovely decor and very comfy beds. These same reviewers had a quiet and peaceful sleep, which is largely what they had come to accomplish.
Wi-Fi was fast for them and they found convenient access to a Tim Hortons across the street and a Moxies restaurant next door at the mall.
Women who had stayed on the ladies-only floor loved the concept and the amenities provided (including free chocolate, cheese, fruit and snacks). One guest conveyed the sentiment well, "I chose the hotel for its women only floor, and was so happy I did! Featuring Aveda amenities, lovely deep tubs, Keurig coffee makers with Starbucks coffee, and a women's lounge and workout room, this floor is a true respite in a busy city. I wish more hotels had one...what a fantastic concept."
Some guests praised the staff for being professional and a pleasure to deal with, and one very pleased guest told of how the staff found and mailed a forgotten item to her.
Others praised the on-site dining and the creative menu. One guest told how the chef went out of his way to prepare a soup for her ailing mother in the hospital, and a recent business guest who frequents this hotel, conveyed that the restaurant was a factor in her frequent returns to the hotel, because she could "count on great food and excellent wait staff who will accommodate a late dinner request".
Surprisingly for the high scores, there were actually a lot of complaints posted, in the reviews that were read. The issues were mostly due to the older and poorly maintained condition of parts of this facility, a lack of organization at times with the reassigning of unserviced rooms and occasional restaurant failures.
Complaints about the rooms included: the bathroom lighting was too dark to put make up on, small rooms, small bathrooms, draft from window in winter, no heat in few guests' rooms and no offer to change rooms, no working AC for several reviewers, TVs not working, minimal cable channels, poor Internet, doors to the rooms would not fully close, old furniture in the rooms and rooms were old, dated and dirty and not like the pictures posted online.
Complaints about the hotel amenities included: hot tub was dirty and the jets did not work, dirty pub chairs that need replacement, pool looks a little run down and steam room did not work.
Complaints regarding service were: check in and out took too long, errors were made with pricing, housekeeping did not clean room and it was rented out to a new guest, room service messed up order repeatedly and was very slow, and the food at restaurant was not satisfactory.
Noise was an issue for some and included: traffic from the street, children/teams running in the hallways screaming and banging doors and loud neighbours that could be heard through the walls and doors.
Guests, especially those who had complaints, felt the hotel charged too much for the rooms, especially in high season.
