Overview
About the hotel: Hotel Selkirk offers a fun learning experience of Edmonton’s history in a circa 1920’s hotel. It’s open in the summer only and provides free entrance to Fort Edmonton Park.

The 3-storey hotel has 30 smoke-free and pet-free rooms with elevator access.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, a coffeemaker, a desk, a telephone, a clock radio, an ensuite bathroom and air conditioning. (Iron and ironing board are available on request.)

Some rooms include a sofabed, a separate bedroom, a living room and bathrobes. Accessible rooms are available.

Rooms are furnished with 2 twin beds or 1 king bed.

Free parking is available on site.

Restaurant on site: Johnson’s Café and Mahogany Bar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily in the summer and is open for Sunday Brunch and private events the rest of the year.

Rooms were clean but basic.

Guests liked being right on site at Fort Edmonton Park.

Some found the staff friendly and accommodating.

Guests often found the food delicious at the restaurant, but some were also disappointed in their meals and found the food pricey.

Guests also liked: strolling the park after the crowds had gone home, hard ice cream cones, old-fashioned ambiance and seeing some animals in the park.

The Bad
There was some negative feedback.

Recent room complaints were: no TV and no news, no tea making in the room, bathrobes not provided in all rooms, bed was hard and duvet was too heavy for summer.

Noise transferred from: wedding guests walking and talking in the hallways and AC units. Some found the dining room too noisy.

Some guests found the staff disinterested and not very friendly.

Other comments found were: hotel was difficult to find with not enough signage, room rates a little pricey, limited gluten-free options, no drink vending machine, and bartender not well trained in making cocktails.
