Overview
Right off the Trans-Canada highway, which connects Calgary to Banff National Park, the Coast Canmore Hotel (formerly Radisson Hotel & Conference Centre) is ideally located as a home base for personal or business travel in the Rockies.

The hotel's 164 rooms span three floors and were renovated in 2010 and upgraded with adjustable Sleep Number Beds. Rooms range from standard guest suites to mountain view suites (with views of Canmore's famous Three Sisters mountain). Business travellers can upgrade to a business suite, which comes with extended workspace amenities, and breakfast and a free nightly drink at the bar. The hotel has an indoor pool an on-site steakhouse restaurant and bar, and fitness and business centres. Pet-friendly rooms are available, for an additional $25/night or the fee can be included in some room rates.

The associated conference centre has 10 meeting and function rooms, including a 6,000-square-foot ballroom and a full range of audiovisual and catering services available.

The entire hotel is a non-smoking facility, and it has been awarded a 4-Key Rating by the Green Key Eco-Rating Program for its sustainability efforts.

The hotel is about 500 metres off Highway 1 (Trans-Canada), only 25 minutes by car from the gates of Banff National Park, and just over an hour by car (approximately 100 km) from downtown Calgary. Canmore's Main Street is 1 km or less than a 10 minute walk away where you'll find additional dining and entertainment options. The Canadian Rockies Adventure Centre is 900 metres down the street, where a wide range of outdoor activites throughout the region can be booked. (Distances and travel times: Google Maps.)

The Good
Generally speaking, reviews used for this analysis indicated guests of the Radisson were very pleased with their stay and the amenities at the hotel.

The location was one of the highest praised features of the hotel, thanks to its proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway, which is the primary route between Calgary and Banff National Park, and easy walking distance to downtown Canmore. Free parking, with plugins available for cold winter nights, was a much-appreciated perk for those travelling by car.

On-site amenities received much praise as well. The restaurant, Vic's Steakhouse, received a lot of praise for the quality of its food, and many guests appreciated the business and fitness centres on-site. Staff received widespread praise for their friendliness and attentiveness.

The adjustable Sleep Number Beds received some mixed reviews, but the majority of reviewers appreciated having the ability to adjust the hardness of the mattress to suit their preferences.

Canmore lends itself well to good views and those with mountain-view rooms enjoyed the impressive vista out the window. Not all rooms offer this view, however.

The Bad
By and large, the reviews sourced for this analysis were positive. Among the negative comments were complaints about the Sleep Number Beds. While most comments about the beds were positive, some guests found the adjustable beds too complicated to figure out while others found the beds malfunctioned. For these guests, the added complication was unnecessary and detracted from their enjoyment of the hotel.

A small portion of guests complained about noise levels at the hotel, in particular the noise transfer between rooms was too high.

The hotel's indoor swimming pool is located in a separate building and only accessible by first going outside of the main hotel building. Some guests didn't appreciate this, especially those who had to make the approximately 40-metre journey in the rain.
