Overview

Located just off Highway 8 and about an 11-minute drive from Calgary's city centre, Travelodge Calgary South is suitable for road travellers who prefer a hotel with a free breakfast, an outdoor pool and easy highway access.

Each of the hotel's air-conditioned guest rooms comes equipped with free Wi-Fi, cable TV, a coffeemaker, a microwave, a mini-fridge, an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer. King rooms with a sitting area and sofabed are also available, as are smoking and non-smoking rooms. The hotel is not wheelchair accessible. It also has no elevator, but two floors.

On-site amenities include a seasonal outdoor pool (open 9 am to 10 pm), guest laundry, free parking and a free continental breakfast served between 5:30 am and 10 am each morning. Please note that there is no fitness centre, and the pool area does not have a hot tub. The hotel also lacks a restaurant.

Pets are permitted for an additional $10 per pet, per day.

Chinook Centre offers shopping about a 2-minute drive away, while the Calgary Stampede Park can be found 11 minutes away by car. Rockyview General Hospital is roughly a 5-minute drive from the hotel, and Calgary International Airport (YYC) is a 19-minute drive away. (All travel time estimates: Google Maps)

The Good

The majority of the reviews sourced for this analysis were positive, with compliments going to the hotel's location and staff. Guest opinions of the rooms were mixed, however.

Many guests found the hotel's location to be convenient. They described it as easy to find and close to restaurants, shopping, Rockyview General Hospital and Chinook Centre.

Some travellers were satisfied with their accommodations at the hotel. They found their rooms to be clean, quiet and spacious, with good Wi-Fi and comfortable beds. Some patrons criticized their lodgings, however (see below).

The Bad

While the majority of reviews consulted for this analysis were positive, there were some common complaints about the rooms, staff and noise transfer.

Although some travellers were satisfied with their clean and comfortable rooms, some lodgers were disappointed with their accommodations. Various reviews contained these complaints: dated decor, cigarette odours in non-smoking rooms and hallways, cleaning issues, uncomfortable beds, inadequately supplied breakfast and poor quality food and spotty Wi-Fi.

Noise transfer was an issue for some reviewers, who reported noise from guests in adjacent and overhead rooms, the hallway and the parking lot.
