Overview

Located in the south east end of Calgary, about a 4-minute drive from Southcentre Mall (one of Calgary's largest), and a 12-minute drive from Fish Creek Provincial Park (promoted as one of Canada's largest urban parks), this hotel is popular with travellers who have business to attend to in south Calgary, or with families who seek accommodations with a variety of on-site amenities.

In all of the 252 rooms at this hotel, guests can expect free Wi-Fi, a 37-inch flat-screen TV, a hair dryer, a mini-fridge, a microwave and a coffeemaker. Guests can choose between a number of different room types including standard rooms (with double, king or queen beds). Guest can also select from a variety of suites that offer different configurations and amenities (e.g. a family suite has bunk beds for children). Pets (up to 2 dogs or cats of 50 lbs.) are permitted at this hotel for a cost of $35/night.

Guests wishing to dine on site have a few different options, including the Atrium Cafe and Skylight Lounge (serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily) and the Boomtown Pub and Patio (serving lunch and dinner daily). There are also a number of restaurants located less than a 5-minute drive from this hotel. On-site amenities include an indoor pool, a waterslide, a gym and a hot tub. Free outdoor parking is available on site as well.

Attractions in the south part of Calgary include the Heritage Park Historical Village (a 10-minute drive away) and the Telus World of Science (a 20-minute drive away). The downtown area (where the business district and some other notable attractions like the Saddledome, the Stampede Corral and the Calgary Tower are located) is a 15-minute drive away. The C-Train (provides access through downtown to the northern part of the city) is about a 13-minute walk from the hotel. Calgary International Airport (YYC) is 27km north of the hotel, and is about a 24-minute drive away (distances and driving time estimates: Google Maps).

The Good

Judging by the reviews used for this analysis, guests enjoyed their stay at this hotel. They were particularly enthusiastic about staff and the pool and waterslide.

Guests received good service from staff, who said that they were friendly (and went out of their way to acknowledge guests). Guests said that staff were well-trained, and that they responded quickly to try to rectify issues. A few staff members were even mentioned by name.

The pool area and the waterslide were mentioned frequently as enjoyable by a number of guests.

Several guests commented on the cleanliness of the rooms and on the "modern decor". Guests felt that rooms were well-configured, spacious and comfortable. A few guests commented specifically on the size and on the layout of the bathrooms.

Guests also appreciated the convenience of this hotel's location. These guests liked being close to the C-Train (13-minute walk), and to shops and restaurants.

There were some additional comments on things like comfy beds and pillows.

The Bad

While most of the reviews used for this analysis were positive, there were a few common complaints for guests, including problems with the A/C units.

Some other guests had problems regulating the A/C temperature, and found their rooms to be very chilly. One guest said that staff fixed this problem by providing her with a portable heater. On the other hand, in warmer months, some guests had difficulties getting their A/C units to cool their rooms, and found them to be warm and stuffy.

There were some additional comments about things like spotty Wi-Fi connections and noise in the hallways.

Some guests complained about the older condition of the Tower Rooms.
