The Good
This is an older and quaint (some say dated) hotel which is highly appreciated for its location, an easy walk to shops, bars and restaurants in downtown Banff.
more The hotel received high marks for its hot buffet breakfast, and many referred to it as excellent with special mention given to the great coffee and made-to-order omelettes. The food at the restaurant received good reviews as well, especially the tasty pizza. There was a bar area with was also good for dining with an outdoor patio and flowers.
Guests found the rooms to be clean and spacious with comfortable beds in recent reviews, although older reviews revealed a lot of complaints of sunken beds.
Staff were very well liked and guests described them as pleasant, accommodating and helpful.
Guests were often pleased to have free underground parking so close to the downtown district, as they could leave their cars parked and explore the area on foot.
The Bad
Some guests felt the hotel was disappointing, especially considering the high season room rates.
Many complaints centred around the lack of air conditioning. Some rooms did not have windows that opened to the outdoors, as they faced the hotel lobby or an atrium, and this made it harder to cool the rooms.
Other recent room complaints were: poor views-room overlooked the car park, balcony doors were unsecured, no mini-fridge or microwave, no in-room safe, shower water either too hot or cold, dated rooms and bathrooms seemed grubby, rooms that faced the atrium/lobby/lounge had noise that echoed, bathroom sink was outside the bathroom, very uncomfortable beds especially for the price of a room, room too hot--could not sleep and carpets dirty.
Hotel complaints were: parking was tight, hot tub area was dirty, and fitness room had one very old bike.
