Tips For Staying Near McGill University

Situated between the Golden Square and Milton Park neighbourhoods in downtown Montreal, steps from the Old Quarter, this English-language university has 11 faculties of study and partnerships with four area teaching hospitals. Another location, the MacDonald Campus is in Sainte-Anne-De-Bellevue.
Getting Around
With over 300 buildings, the campus itself is 79 acres and it takes approximately 20 minutes to walk from north to south. Multiple interactive maps are available on the website to orient oneself prior to visiting and a virtual tour of the campus is also available.

Prospective students and their parents are welcome to visit for a campus tour, and can do so by stopping in at the Welcome Centre on McTavish Street. More information on tours is available on their website. The school has also created an Around McGill in 80 seconds video for informational purposes and to get an introductory overview of the school.

Downtown Montreal is a mere 6-minute drive, or 26-minute walk from the campus, and the Quartier des Spectacles is a 5-minute walk away. The Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is an approximate 1-hour drive from the school.

While many of the below-mentioned hotels are within a 10-minute walk of the school, public transit is available, operated by the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM). Single-ride, adult fare is $3, but an unlimited-use evening pass can be purchased for $5 (6 pm to 5 am) or an unlimited-use day (24-hour) pass can be purchased for $10. Staying the weekend? Consider an unlimited-use weekend pass, which costs $13, but is valid from 6 pm Friday to 5 am on Monday.

More route and fare information can be found on the STM website.
A wide range of parking options are available on campus, from automated underground garages to outdoor meter parking. Rates vary from $3.50 per half hour, to a $20 daily maximum. Some restrictions may apply during certain times of the day. More visitor parking information is available on their website.
A number of dining options are available on campus, ranging from restaurants to food courts and cages. More information and an interactive map (which can be configured to show places to eat) can be found on their website.
From a wide range of clubs, sports games and musical performances, students and visitors to McGill won't be idle! The Schulich School of Music alone puts on over 700 performances throughout the year.
A number of official McGill hotels offer discounts for staff, students and visitors. Information on those hotels can be found on their website, or in the brochure.

However, it is always advisable to compare rates to ensure you get the best price and amenities and services for your needs.
