Tips For Staying In Dorval

Location
This suburb is located west of Montreal, and about a 20-minute drive from downtown Montreal. It's home to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and the VIA Rail Dorval Train Station. While the airport takes up about 60% of Dorval's landmass, there is a small residential community that borders the Saint Lawrence River.

Within close proximity of the airport, many hotels in Dorval cater to air travellers and offer free 24-hour shuttle service. Shuttle operations differ from hotel to hotel, so I advise checking with the hotel directly to see if the shuttle runs on a set schedule, operates on demand, or requires pre-booking.

Most of the hotels in this area are chain hotels and are competitively priced. These hotels are generally less expensive than downtown Montreal hotels, and many hotels in this area also offer free Wi-Fi, free parking and free breakfast.

Getting Around
There is little available within walking distance of the hotels. If you're looking to explore the area, a car is highly recommended. If arriving in Montreal by train, the VIA Rail Dorval Station offers free shuttle service to the Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL).

Bus and train service is also available from the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to downtown Montreal via the AMT. Last we checked, the cost to travel by train was $4.50, while the bus fee was $3. Travellers can also rent a car from one of the many kiosks located at the airport.

Dining
The area around the airport, where most hotels are located, is mostly industrial and offers few dining or shopping venues. Many hotels are not within walking distance of restaurants or shops. Depending on your travel plans, you may want to look for a hotel that offers on-site dining.

Food delivery is also an option when staying at a Dorval hotel, and there are multiple restaurant options. Pizza Dorval 2 for 1 is highly rated by UrbanSpoon.com, while La Porte Orientale delivers Chinese food.
