Guests showed positive responses to several aspects of the hotel in recent reviews found online, although overall the reviews were dominated by a strong mix of opinion.
Some reviewers found the location convenient for accessing major thoroughfares and highways and a couple of guests thought that the hotel was easy to find from the highway.
Several guests found clean and spacious rooms with comfortable beds. Some mentioned that the price was reasonable for the room they had received.
Smitty's on site was a convenient and good place to eat for a number of guests. It seemed to be appreciated by guests who liked having a restaurant on site, especially those wishing to rest from their travels and for guests travelling with children.
Features of the hotel that added value to the stay: mini-fridge in the room, 40" TV, microwave in the room, pool open until 11 pm, good Wi-Fi, close to restaurants and mall.
Several areas of the hotel elicited complaints from guest reviewers in the reviews read recently for this editorial.
Although some guests thought the staff were great, others found them rude and unaccommodating.
Some found the rooms small and cramped, too hot, and the beds uncomfortably soft with old mattresses and pillows that gave no support.
Several guests were disturbed by noise that caused them to lose sleep. Guests referred to doors that kept slamming shut and noisy guests that were in the hallways and adjacent rooms.
Cleanliness and upkeep was an issue for some who spoke of rooms that had not been properly cleaned, or that smelled of smoke or other odours.
There were some maintenance issues at the hotel. An elevator that made banging sounds, a door to the hallway with a large gap in it, electrical outlets that would not hold the plug in and poor water pressure in a shower were a few of the problems guests wrote about.
Some guest reviewers said they were charged more than booked, once they got to the hotel.
