Guest Recommendations
Paulette from Vancouver, BC CA stayed on June 21, 2006

"Extremely noisy on "Old Qu«±bec" side. Would recommend to take a room on the quiet side. Food is certainly nothing to write home about, which is a shame for such a place. Rooms are nice."
James from Essex Junction, VT US stayed on August 29, 2005

"This was the second time I stayed at the Hotel Clarendon. The place is beautiful. I do have a couple of things that really bothered me this time. First, We requested a non smoking room. We were on the first floor and getting off the elevator the smell of a smoking floor was evident. The room smelled of smoke. However, it was a smaller annoyance than other smoking rooms. The linnen did not smell of smoke, which would have been intollerable. Second, when I showed up, I parked in the front. My wife stayed with the car, waiting for the valet, while I checked in and brought most of our bags to our room. When I came out she was still standing there, I waited another 15 minutes, then went to park my car myself. Otherwise the city is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone, but the hotel was only average."
Louise from Ottawa, ON CA stayed on July 14, 2005

"My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Clarendon Hotel. It was a superb experience. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our hotel room was very quiet and had its own quiet climate control which was very welcome as the temperature during our stay was very warm. We felt very safe walking around this lovely and interesting tourist area. The buffet breakfast in the hotel is top notch. The dining room is very classy and the service is excellent. I listened to some great live jazz music in the hotel lounge. The hotel is a very short cab ride from the VIA train station. I would recommend the Clarendon hotel in a heartbeat and hope to return there again in the future."
Patti from Burnaby, BC CA stayed on July 12, 2005

"I was surprised that we had to PAY for extra coffee. I have never had to do so before - we had just spent 8 night in Montreal and one in Ottawa. I talked to the desk who suggested it wasn't her problem but a decision made and common of all hotels. I think it is tacky to make us pay $1.25 for another coffee. Also windows that opened would have made the room more comfortable, we were 4 in a room! Other than that the business centre was convenient. The location was excellent."
Jim from Chicago, IL US stayed on June 25, 2005

"Very nice, historic hotel right in the middle of historic Quebec."
Jack from Fairfield, ME US stayed on February 05, 2005

"Very convenient location, wonderful staff. We appreciated the valet parking as city streets were crowded and parking very limited. All in all, a pleasant surprise, we will be back."
Bruce from Milford, CT US stayed on July 18, 2004

"We've stayed here before and the refurbished rooms were very nice. Only issue is the service in the lounge/jazz bar. We would go there for a pre-evening drink each night and the service was pleasant but inattentive. Other customers had to go to the bar to get another round of drinks, which is inappropriate. Other than that, I love the place and would readily stay there again."
Natalie from St Kilda, VC AU stayed on February 01, 2004

"We had a most enjoyable stay at the hotel, however the shower in the hotel room was almost dangerous - the water would switch from being relatively warm to being dangerously hot, I would suggest it is something that should be looked at."
Karen from Montreal, PQ CA stayed on November 26, 2003

"Since the renovations the Hotel has the charm of an Old Québec city hotel along with the freshness of a building just renovated. It was great. Karen"

Overview & Amenities

Hotel Clarendon

Since 1870, the Clarendon Hotel has been an integral part of Old Quebec. The hotel is located across from the tended grounds of City Hall in a neighborhood crisscrossed with cobblestone streets lined with ornamental gardens. Nearby, you will find a grove of century-old trees. The Clarendon Hotel stands out from other hotels in the Old City by virtue of its architecture. Instead of resembling a château, as do so many establishments in this part of town, the Clarendon is a jewel of modern decorative arts, a combination of Art Nouveau from the Belle Époque and Art Deco from the Roaring Twenties. Quebec City's only New York-style skyscraper, the 17-storey Price Building, which dates back to 1929, is the Clarendon's next-door neighbor. Of course, where else would expect to find such a prestigious building with Art Deco architecture? As proof of Quebec City's fondness for this architectural treasure, the Clarendon Hotel was spared the rush to modernize the concrete jungle in the 1970s and was not subjected to the indignity of improvised renovations. The Provincial Premier stays in the Price Building when the National Assembly is in session. And many members of the National Assembly and government ministers have been guests at the Clarendon Hotel, making the hotel a kind of miniature Parliament Building. The Clarendon Hotel can boast of being the first family hotel in the province of Quebec. During your stay with us, you will love exploring Old Quebec and be delighted by what the Clarendon has to offer: its incomparable hospitality. For generations, this is what has drawn business travelers, tourists, artists from around the globe and world-famous musicians to the Clarendon, which also happens to have the best jazz bar in Quebec City.
