Overview
Located on Massawippi Lake and about a 2-minute drive from Highway 108, the Manoir Hovey is geared towards travellers with a car who want a hotel on the water with on-site dining and recreation and off-site activities within a short driving distance.
This hotel has 37 air-conditioned guest rooms and suites, each offering free Wi-Fi, a flat screen TV, a coffeemaker, a desk, a bathrobe for each guest, a CD player or iPod dock, hypoallergenic bedding, an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer. Standard rooms offer one single and one double bed or two single beds.
Other various rooms and suites provide additional amenities like a kitchen or kitchenette, a private heated pool, a separate bedroom, a living room with a sofabed, a jetted tub, a private balcony and a fireplace. Views feature the lake, woods or gardens. Lakeside cottages are also available and feature extra amenities such as a private dock with a kayak and canoe, a private garden and/or a boathouse.
Hotel amenities include a seasonal outdoor pool, fitness facilities, meeting/banquet space, a private beach area, a business centre, a tennis court and free parking. In the winter, the hotel offers snowshoeing right from its door and skating at its own private rink. The grounds offer 35 acres of gardens and forests to explore.
On-site dining is available at the Tap Room Pub (open for lunch and dinner daily June through September), and Le Hatley, which serves breakfast and dinner daily year-round. The hotel offers wheelchair accessibility, and pets are permitted for a fee of $40 per room per night.
Downtown Magog is about a 15-minute drive from the Manoir Hovey, while skiing at Mont Orford is about a 20-minute drive away. Shopping at Les Promenades King is roughly a 25-minute away, and Sherbrooke Airport (YSC) is a 45-minute drive from the hotel. Downtown Montreal is about an hour and a half away by car. The GoodOf the reviews consulted for this analysis, the majority were positive. Guests most commonly praised the hotel's staff, food and rooms.
Numerous reviewers complimented the staff at this hotel, and characterized them as sincere, professional, bilingual and helpful in providing directions. One guest remarked, "They make every effort to make each guest feel comfortable and they make a point of knowing everyone's special preferences".
The hotel's food was the source of many compliments by guests. It was described as imaginative, delicious, beautifully presented and well priced. One patron stated, "This is cuisine as an art form and everything we have had there has been superb". However, a couple of guests felt that the restaurant's wine list was pricey (see below).
Several lodgers were pleased with their rooms. They described them as modern, clean, well equipped, spacious and beautifully furnished, with comfortable beds and linens and nice lake views.
The Bad
While the majority of reviews consulted for this analysis were positive, there were a few common complaints about the hotel's overall value and noise transfer.
A few guests complained about the costs of the hotel. They found the room rates to be expensive, the wine list at the restaurant to be overpriced, and were disappointed that the in-room coffeemakers only provided one complimentary coffee pod per guest.
Noise transfer was mentioned by a couple of guests, who complained of being able to hear guests in adjacent rooms.
