The Good
This hotel seemed to be serviceable to some guests looking for a cheap place to stay in downtown Montreal, and although online reviews were largely of mixed opinion, most seem agreed that the location was convenient and the room prices were affordable.

Guests liked the location of this hotel for accessing downtown attractions, Concordia University, festivals and the Metro. Guests also found groceries, restaurants and bars within an easy walk.

The room's price point was attractive to guests who had little to spend on a hotel room and some thought of it as more of a hostel.

The Bad
The hotel received substantial criticism in the reviews consulted for this analysis, and many guests were very disappointed with their experience at the hotel.

Many reviewers described the hotel as a dump and said everything in their rooms — the beds, chairs, carpets and drapes — were old, dirty, and stained. Some reviewers who had been assigned rooms on the hotel's basement level described these rooms as dingy and others complained of small and cramped rooms and mouldy bathrooms. Several guests had rooms that smelled bad (some said of urine), and more than one said the HVAC units produced dusty and foul-smelling air.

There were complaints of bed bug bites from a few guests in 2008, another in 2009, and another in 2014. A guest in June of 2015 claimed to have gotten scabies at the hotel. Complaints of uncleanliness and poor maintenance seemed to abound.

Noise was also an issue for many guests who cited noise disturbances from the street and guests in nearby rooms or hallways. Guests conveyed that they could hear every word or movement from nearby rooms.

There were also many comments that the staff were unhelpful, and several guests complained of being cheated by the owners, although some guests said the staff were friendly.

Some complained of no elevator, no parking, no air conditioning, no clerk at the front desk at times to check in, and no breakfast supplied.

Although the hotel is located close to many downtown attractions, the immediate area was described by many reviewers as sleazy. The particular stretch of Ste. Catherine Street near the hotel is known for homelessness, public drunkenness, and other issues. Some guests complained of drunk guests and claimed that the hotel offered hourly rates.

Many reviewers wrote that they would warn others to stay away from this hotel and to spend a bit more money for other cleaner but still budget-friendly hotels in the area.
