The Good
Overall, the hotel received abundant praise from nearly all the reviews consulted for this analysis, especially for its atmosphere, rooms, service and location.

Numerous guest reviewers praised the hotel's "contemporary and elegant" design and atmosphere. Many reviewers appreciated the blend of old and new, with one remarking that the hotel was "a nice combination of modern luxe and old world charm". Several guest reviewers enjoyed the lively ambinece of the hotel's bars at night and the service and quality of the food and drinks overall.

There was ample praise for the rooms and suites as well. Like the hotel itself, many reviewers enjoyed the blend of old and new in the rooms, with comments such as "chic and comfortable" and "luxurious but still historic". There were many comments praising the rain-showers and "luxurious" bedding and linens. One reviewer on holiday with his wife wrote that, "the hotel and room was so beautiful we didn't see as much of Montreal as we wanted because we felt like staying in the room!"  Another reviewer said that "our room was phenomenal, so much so that I panicked thinking we had accidentally booked a suite."

The staff service was also described numerous times as being excellent, courteous, helpful and friendly. Front desk, concierge, restaurant-bar, cleaning, and valet staff all received many positive comments in the reviews analyzed.

Numerous reviewers also enjoyed the hotel's proximity to the city's nightlife and dining options, as well as the many cultural attractions of Old Montreal.
The Bad
Overall, there were very few negative comments about the hotel in the reviews consulted.

There were a few guest reviews that described incidents whereby the rooms were not as clean as they would have liked, or remarked that some minor maintenance issues needed to be addressed. And while the hotel's rooms received mostly glowing praise, a few reviewers who had stayed in the standard rooms housed in 'Building One' found their rooms to be too small.

A few guests travelling with cars found the hotel's $28/day valet parking service a little expensive.

"Customer service is outstanding at this hotel from the door, reception, to room. The room is spacious especially the bathroom which is bright, huge with a really nice tub. The shampoo, soap, handcream are all of excellent quality, very impressive indeed. My only complaint is that the room is kind of cold and there is no way for me to adjust the temperature. As well, the internet connection is very slow and not very reliable."

"The staff went above and beyond to make our stay an enjoyable one. The breakfast and evening wine and cheese (which are included in the cost) were welcoming and convenient."

"My grown daughter and I went for some "mother and daughter" time together. We couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Directly across from Notre Dame, within walking distance to all the historic attractions and short distances to anywhere by Metro (which we used every day). The hotel room was beautifully outfitted, very trendy. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were wonderful. Complimentary breakfasts were delicious and we enjoyed the wine and cheese service in the afternoon. Staff was always friendly and eager to help, drawing maps and answering our myriad of questions. Check-in couldn't have been simpler - just presented our print-out from freehotelsearch.com. We were in our room in less than 5 minutes! Would highly recommend this hotel to everyone."

"This hotel combines old world charm with a modern approach to service and quality. The hotel restaurant deserves special mention, the the roof terrace (another restaurant, bar and a small gymnasium) is excellent, though the terrance bar and restaurant are open only when the weather allows. The only shortcoming I could think of is the lack of a swimming pool. Will definately return when next in Montreal!"

"This boutique hotel has a wonderful location at the corner of Place D'Armes square, across from Notre Dame cathedral in the heart of Vieux Montreal. It is only 2 blocks from the metro so you have easy access to the rest of Montreal. The rooftop terrace/bar was a nice place to relax with a drink and look down at the square before dinner. I highly reccommend this hotel!"
