Editor's Analysis
Updated Feb 10, 2015
Located a 5-minute walk from the Canadian Centre for Architecture and about a 5-minute drive to the nearest Highway 720 interchange, La Renaissance Dorchester is popular with business and vacation travellers who require apartment-style accommodations for long and short-term rentals with full kitchens.

This hotel has 100 air-conditioned apartments, each offering free Wi-Fi, cable TV, a full kitchen, a desk, a sitting area, an iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer. One and two-bedroom suites are also available.

Hotel amenities include a business centre and laundry services. Parking is not available on site, pets are not permitted, and the hotel does not offer wheelchair accessible rooms.

Many restaurants and shops are located on nearby St Catherine Street, (a five-minute walk northwestward) and the Metro's Guy-Concordia station is about an 8-minute walk west of the hotel. The Bell Centre is approximately 9 minutes northeast on foot, while Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is roughly a 20-minute drive southwest of La Renaissance Dorchester. The Good
While most of the reviews consulted for this analysis were negative, there were a few common compliments among them about the location.

Several guests were pleased with the hotel's location. They found it to be close to shopping and restaurants, the Metro, and local bus service. One guest described the hotel's location as in the heart of downtown.
The Bad
While this hotel received a couple of positive comments among the reviews consulted for this analysis, most reviews were negative and focused primarily on the hotel's rooms and staff.

Numerous reviewers were disappointed with the accommodations. They described their rooms as dirty and ill-equipped, with stained linens, poor Wi-Fi signals, inefficient air conditioning units and broken window shades.

The hotel's staff were a source of many complaints. They were characterized as unfriendly, unavailable, unhelpful, rude and even aggressive. It was reported that there was no front lobby area, and that staff were difficult to get a hold of at times as well.

The general consensus was that this location is not a hotel, but is in fact an apartment building which rents out some of their units, leading guests to feel as though they were misled.
