Overview
The Hotel Viger is on St. Hubert Street, in Montreal's Plateau neighbourhood, conveniently located downtown and at the edge of Old Montreal, the city's historic district.

All of the hotel's 22 rooms feature a private bathroom, a telephone with free local calls, cable TV, air conditioning, a hair dryer, and a mini-fridge. Guests may choose from rooms with 1 double bed, 1 queen bed, 2 double or 2 queen beds.

Housed in a historic Victorian building, this non-smoking, 4-floor hotel does not have an elevator. Free Wi-Fi is provided in all the rooms and common areas, and a complimentary breakfast is served daily. In addition to free local calls in the rooms, the hotel also offers guests 2 free minutes of international calls a day. There is no on-site parking, but there are parking lots in the nearby area.

The hotel is a 7-minute walk to the Berri-UQAM metro station, which is the centre for 3 of Montreal’s 4 metro lines. The Berri-UQAM station is also home to the Greyhound bus station, as well as the 747 airport shuttle bus which takes travellers to Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport for $10. The train station is 4 metro stops away, at Bonaventure station.

The hotel is less than 1 km from many of Montreal's popular neighbourhoods, restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and other attractions. The Gay Village and the shops of St. Catherine Street are a 5-minute walk from the hotel, while Chinatown and Old Montreal are about a 10-minute walk, as is the vibrant nightlife of both St. Denis Street and St. Laurent Boulevard (all distances and travel time estimates: Google Maps).

The Good
Overall, reviews for this hotel were very mixed among those used for this analysis. While there were many comments that the hotel was good value for money, there were perhaps just as many from reviewers who disagreed.

One reviewer wrote that for a very affordable price, "You get a great location, a clean hotel, a nice continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, TV, fridge, private bathroom and a comfortable room." Another reviewer described the hotel as "cheap and cheerful". Many reviewers acknowledged that the rooms were small, but still comfortable and sufficient.

Many guests found the hotel's location to be convenient and within a short walk to many tourist attractions, such as Old Montreal, and some commented that the hotel's street was quiet and they felt safe.

Some reviewers appreciated the simple complimentary breakfast, and some others commented that the wireless Internet connection was strong and consistent.

The Bad
While many guest reviewers said the hotel provided good value for money, many others felt the hotel was did not meet their needs.

There were several comments in the reviews that the rooms were not only small, but old and unclean. Many reviewers commented that their rooms were not cleaned properly or consistently. The beds, bedding, and carpets were described many times as being very old and in need of replacing.

And while some reviewers were pleased with the hotel's neighbourhood, some found it to be "seedy" and "rough", with homeless people and evidence of drug use on the street and in the nearby park.

Some readers also found the off-site parking and lack of elevator to be inconvenient, and others found the simple complimentary breakfast of muffins, croissants, and coffee to be lacking in substance and variety.

And while many reviewers found the hotel staff to be friendly, some others found the staff rude and not particularly helpful.
