"First visit to Montreal"
"I had great expectations about Montreal and after my visit, I realized that I chose a great hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent; close to cafes, restaurants, shopping centres, metro stations, all of which facilitate tourism by foot.
The room was large, comfortable and well equipped. The service in general was good and overall, I had a great experience. I recommend this hotel and I will definitely go back the next time I visit Montreal!"

"Good stuff"
"Location! Can't beat it for the price we paid.
Service was as good as it needed to be; Asked for more coffee/towels/etc and they brought them right up.
Held our bags for us while we waited to check in no charge.
Pool on the roof."

"We are satisfied overall"
"I booked this hotel for a 3 day liesure trip for me and my friends. We arrive very early from our booked check-in time and they accomodate us right away. they help us store our luggage till our room is ready. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The hotel is perfect for a non smoking people like us. I am so glad to have choosen this hotel for it didn't cost me a shame from my friends. Close to every attraction of the city. Accessible to public transit. Amenities are working well."

"Really comfortable beds and great location"
"They had a balcony but the window was all sealed up. That was a shame. But much more importantly, the beds were unbelievably comfortable. Fabulous location - only a couple of blocks away from the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. Would stay there again."

"Our only complaint was the parking at the hotel was very expensive. You would think that if you are staying at the hotel they could charge a reasonable amount since we have no other choice of where we could park. Also we recomended the hotel to two other parties."

"The only problem was that I could not get access to the Internet even though I agreed to pay the daily rate. I was given the access code but this did not work for me ( some I-hotel service ) This is the second time. The help service comes from an outside agency which must be phoned. Two problems. The telephone is some distance from the desk upon which a lap tap ( or note book ) is placed. The voice was indistinghable. On the other hand one can use the hotel business service. Sometimes the computers are not "on" but a call to the front desk and someone appears to help. This feature could be improved upon"

"In room 1709 the plumbing ran from very hot to warm without changing it in the shower and i was afraid I was going to get burnt. The sink's hot water was hard to turn on. The motor for the air vents kept going on and off so it made it hard to sleep when the motor was running. Both computers in the business room were down but the front desk offered to get help so I could use them.
I thought the price was fair and I liked the location. I also like thed umbrella service and parking was handy."

"The Front Desk staff were exceptional in assisting us with whatever we needed. Highly recommended.
The elevators are a bit small for the size of the hotel and at check out time one of the three elevators was dedicated to the room attendants which created a back up of guests trying to get to check out."

"The hotel is clean and secure, walking distane to any major attraction, shopping, entertainment or business, It's right in downtown.
We parked the car in the garage and walked. The city is superb and people are friendly and open. Montreal is heaven for tourists. The US dollar has lost its value, therefore it costs a bit more, the exchange rate is almost 1 to 1 but its whorth it."

"One thing concerned us at this hotel and that was a sign that said there would be a $50 charge if we didn't leave the kitchenette as we found it. Now I know what slobs some people can be and appreciate the hotel's desire to have the place left in good condition but I really dont want to use dishes etc that someone has just run under a tap before checking out. At other apt/hotels we have stayed in the housekeeping staff has ensured that all the kitchen items are clean. On enquiry the hotel staff had no idea if/how the housekeeping staff judged cleanliness."

"In addition to above -- your main problem seems to be the indifference of the front desk -- little eye contact, no particular interest in the quality of my stay, unresponsive to my need to layover a few hours to take a late afternopon train, the insistence on calling for a taxi (which never arrived) when dozens flow by your door unoccuopied each minute (is there a subcontract/?).
I exempt your mezzanine bar/restaurant people -- who, given that their shift seems to begin at about 5 am (*!!) are wonderfully attentive, courteous and cheerful! They alone will bring me back!
The rooms are basically fine - but need inspection for minor things - e.g. curtains don't close properly, furniture pieces separating, no fan in bathroom (often noted by feedback, I see). Maids don't knock, even with paper still outside the door."

"Breakfast was exspensive. Possible to upgrade at lower cost when you arrive. If you don't like your room they show you others- very Old building makes for very different rooms. Pools on the roof-very cool."

"yes ..........I had my parents calling me several times from abroad...the transfer was done ..but I could only hear them ..they could not hear me at all.
second, a fax I new I received...was not in my box till next day!!!!
and every time I asked for I was told WE DID NOT RECEIVE IT YET!!!!!!!!!"

"Le Cantlie is a well-situated, clean hotel located about two minutes by foot from the Musee des Beaux-Arts and Ste. Catherine Street. On three of the four days we were there, I had to call down for towels as they were not automatically replaced despite following the hotel's guidelines for their replacement. The showerhead released water in a huge torrent and the bathtub drain was seriously plugged. In fairness to the hotel, both the towel and the shower problems were fixed quickly. The reception staff was courteous, but some of the staff in the breakfast room seemed to view the presence of guests as an imposition. Apparently we entered the dining area from the wrong side which the waitress took as a personal affront, even though there was no indication that we were to wait to be seated or that one entrance was preferred over another. As for the quality of the meal served at breakfast, it was clear that it was done as cheaply as possible: reconstituted eggs, bagels which barely held together. For the same price (as breakfast was surprisingly not included in the room rate), you're much better to go out the hotel room doors, turn left, go left down Stanley Street (which runs along the west side of the hotel) and have breakfast at Chez Cora where you get fresh ingredients, a wide variety of menu options and huge portions for the same amount of money.
In summary, Le Cantlie is a serviceable hotel for those who want to stay in a central location and who want clean lodgings. But eat elsewhere and be prepared to tell the staff about problems which are usually taken care of without needing to be reminded."
