Overall, the hotel received mixed comments in the reviews use for this analysis.

Most of the positive comments were directed towards the hotel location, which one reviewer described as “the crossroads to everything". Numerous reviewers found the location to be ideal for business or sightseeing and appreciated its proximity to attractions and services.

The Bad
While the hotel received some positive comments about its location, there were also many criticisms of the hotel rooms and the surrounding area.

Numerous reviewers described the rooms at this hotel as old, outdated and in need of upgrading and maintenance. There were several comments about clogged shower drains, mold in the bathrooms, and peeling wallpaper. As well, many reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with the overall cleanliness of their rooms.

Some guest reviewers also expressed confusion and dissatisfaction with the pool’s opening hours. While the fitness centre is open 24 hours a day, the pool is open in the morning and again in the evening but is closed from 12-5 pm.

And while the location was deemed accessible and convenient by many reviewers, there were perhaps just as many who found the immediate area a bit seedy. Many reviewers remarked that there were homeless people in the area, and a park directly across the street that seemed unsafe at night to some guests.

"A decent hotel with an excellent view, but..."

"The hotel caters to school groups in the summer - which means literally hundreds of children are using the restaurant and elevators - as a business person trying to go down or come up from breakfast - it was a nightmare and you need to plan an extra 10-15 mins accordingly. Rooms need updating - hairdryers and toilets should be reported by cleaning staff when they do not work properly."

"the breakfast buffet was great and so was the view from our room. However, I anticipate that a superior room would have been larger and pool hours could be extended."

"I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years. It was much ritzier in 1997 when I first stayed there. This visit was by far the least enjoyable (although nothing horrible to write home about), my most recent prior visit being in 2003. We checked in to 2 rooms only to find one room had not been made up from the previous guests. The hotel quickly found us another room close by to our second room. The blankets and bathrooms are getting old (although the bathrooms are still clean and the sheets still white), but the furnishings look as if they've been more recently replaced."

"My room on the 19th floor was very quiet. The AC was adequate, and the king size bed was very clean and comfortable..Nice view up Rue St. Catherine. Their buffet breakfast had nice variety, and was excellent each morning."

"Very convenient location for metro as well as Old Montreal. Parking for SUV's was a problem. The indoor garage levels were intended for small vehicles and larger cars were to park at an outdoor lot. After reading about break ins in outdoor lots, I was reluctant to park a new car in an outdoor lot. We managed to squeeze the SUV into an indoor spot on Friday and when there were no spots on Saturday night, the hotel offered us space in the reserved section. The concierge was very helpful with directions. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I would highly recommend it."

"The staff were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about Montreal and its attractions. My children and I enjoyed the restaurant very much. I especially liked the proximity of the hotel to Old Montreal and the Latin Quarter. We had a great time!"
