OverviewThe Holiday Inn Express Suites Center Ville is located on the west side of Rene Levesque Boulevard East in Montreal, Quebec just to the north of Bullion Street. The hotel is near the Champ-de-Mars metro station (350m) and major Montreal destinations like the Bell Centre, the Mount Royal Park, and McGill University are all within 3km of the hotel (Google Maps).
Old Montreal and Chinatown are also near to the property as both are within 1-2km of the hotel's main entrance.
Facilities at this Holiday Inn Express include a business centre, meeting rooms, a fitness centre, concierge service, guest laundry, and parking ($18/night plus tax). Room rates include Express Start Breakfast, complimentary morning newspapers, complimentary high speed Internet, and free local calls.
The pet friendly hotel has eight floors and 161 guest rooms/suites. Common amenities include coffee makers, fridges, microwaves, kitchenettes, 27" televisions, irons, ironing boards, and hair dryers. Additionally rooms have desks complete with ergonomic chairs and the standard studio suite has two queen beds.
Check in time at this hotel is 3pm while check out time is noon.
The GoodSeveral guests who stayed at this hotel were impressed with the property. Typically guests were happy with the price, the location, the staff, or the hotel's breakfast.
Guests that commented on the prices of their room rates seemed to think that they were paying fair or reasonable prices. One guest commenting on his room and the service he received said "for the price it was great" while other guests attested to "very good" value or even "great" value.
The location of the hotel received a lot of praise as well although guests varied on what they liked being near. Most guests seemed to like being downtown in general while some specifically said they liked being near Old Montreal. Other guests said that they liked being near Chinatown while others indicated that they liked being close to a metro station.
The staff at the hotel received a lot more praise than criticism. Guests who commented on the staff typically said that they were friendly and/or helpful.
Many guests also liked the breakfast at the hotel. These guests usually mentioned that it was free but some didn't stop there as they described a meal service with good selection. One guest called the free continental breakfast "exciting" and then listed several items to choose from, including fruits, muffins, bagels, cereals, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage.
The Bad
Some guests had concerns with the property, usually pertaining to the Internet at the hotel, the perceived age of the property, or the parking situation.
A few guests indicated that they had trouble with either the wired Internet or the wireless Internet. One guest said that the wired Internet was slow, another indicated that he/she couldn't get Wifi in his/her room. Another guest commented on "Internet cords in the rooms," possibly referring to wired Internet, and said that they were "EXTREMELY slow and unreliable" (all caps is the reviewer's emphasis).
Many guests felt as if the hotel was old or dated and some recommended updating or renovations. The rooms did not escape criticism from this perspective as well. A few guests also complained about a cigarette smoke smell in their rooms.
The parking at the hotel received occasional complaints. Guests that were motorists faced a $20 fee at check in for a daily parking rate and some of these guests complained about that fee. One guest called parking a "squeeze" job, implying that there was not great space for vehicles of larger sizes.
TripAdvisor.com ranked the hotel 66th of 168 Montreal hotels and the property had 290 reviews.
Booking.com guest ratings averaged to 7.6 points out of 10 and the site had 76 reviews.
Priceline.com guest ratings averaged to 8.4 points out of 10 and the hotel ranked 18th of 154 Montreal hotels.

"Great hotel in le centre ville"
"This hotel was in the perfect location for downtown Montreal, not too busy but yet close to everything. The staff was very helpful with finding places to eat and how to take the Metro. I liked that there was a full sized fridge so I could store groceries if I wanted to."

"Few positives"
"The valet/concierge was great. Morning breakfast was very good. Front desk was not very friendly. Told us our room wasn't ready and to come back in an hour. Almost 4 hours later it still wasn't ready and in the meantime front desk had given away all non- smoking which was what we had requested!!! So we spent 2 days in a smoking room which was disgusting!"

"Few places need to be repaired in the washroom. The boilers was too noisy during the night. The machine besides the window (looks like an air condition, don't know what is it for) was too noisy when turned on.
The corridor was not bright enough."

"I actually enjoyed my stay very much at the hotel. The people who worked there were very pleasent, and helpful. The room was comfortable, and very clean. The first night i was there the fire alarm went off because there was a flood on my floor. They were very organized and had a lot of patients with other people who were staying there who were not as patient. This was out of their control, but they did the best they could to make people happy. The day I left I ran into an employee who was an obsolute horrible employee; so one person out of the rest is pretty darn good. I will be staying there again in September, and again in October if things go as good as they did the first time!"

"I was very happy staying here as right from the bell boy to the receptionist and everyone in the hotel were very good and pleasing. This hotel is so close to all the important sightseeing places and well conected to the metro from where you can go places. The receptionists are very good and do their job with extreeme speed and efficiency. I am happy I went through the right website to get this place and there was no problems at all for me. I wish many people take this place to stay."

"We had a very attractive suite with a kitchen and separate bedroom, one of the most attractive I have seen in many years of travel. In addition to a fantastic room at a great price, we thought the selection at the complimentary breakfast was incrediable. We were extremely happy with the accommodations, with two exceptions. 1) Maid service. The maid came too early (9:30), and when we put out the "do not disturb sign" she came too late. 2) The kitchen was quite nice, but there were no utencils, plates, cups or anything to take advantage of the availability of a microwave and refrig. A few basic utencils would have been a very nice addition. Nonetheless, we loved the room and enjoyed our stay. This info comes from a couple in their sixties who have traveled extensive over many years."

"The hotel was clean and the staff were all friendly and attentive. However, we arrived about 2 hours earlier than the check in time of 3pm. So worn out from the 7-hour drive and we were greeted very coldly by the lady in the reception area and told to come back at 3pm because the room we booked is not yet available. This is my 5th time to travel to Montreal and we always book different hotels to experience the different type of hospitality they can provide. And this is the first time we were coldly sent away without even an offer to sit and wait at the lobby. At this time, we figured it would have been better to stay at a B & B (Auberge le Pomerol would be an excellent choice - they are very pleasant whatever time you arrive and makes sure that you're very well taken care of). We went for lunch and went back around 2pm because we have a 55-yr old woman with us who was diabetic and needed a place to just sit and relax while waiting for the room at our hotel to be available. We were lucky because the "COLD" lady was no longer in the reception area and another lady was there (I think her name was T. Mateo). She was very accomodating and pleasant. She gave us our room right away, not minding that it was only 2pm and not 3pm (which the other lady wanted to strictly follow). After that checking in experience, everything went well. The other staff were all nice and made the rest of our stay very comfortable."

"This hotel is a great value. The suites are roomy and clean. The people are helpful and friendly and speak both French and English equally well.The hotel is situated perfectly for the tourist. The only thing I thought was odd was that there were no dishes or pots in the beautiful kitchens."

"My overnight visit was solely to attend a private party at Le Piemontaise, just across the street. Food was outstanding and accommodations far more than I required. Definitely recommend for extended stay. Breakfast was as expected and everything was well organized. Enjoy!
