Gouverneur Hotel Montreal is attached to a mall and is ideally located in downtown Montreal only a 1-minute walk from the Berri-UQAM Metro station, an important hub for accessing much of Montreal, including the airport and train station. It's popular with guests seeking a more affordable stay in downtown Montreal close to many amenities, attractions and restaurants, both above and below ground.

There are 352 rooms in this 30-floor property. Guests may choose a room with either 1 queen bed, 1 king bed, or 2 double beds. All rooms are air-conditioned and feature cable TV with pay-per-view movies, a work desk, an ironing board with iron, and a hair dryer. The hotel also has junior and executive suites on its top floors (the 29th and 30th), which offer a whirlpool tub, a separate living room, and more space in addition to the standard amenities.

Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the hotel, and parking is available at the hotel's indoor lot for $19.50 per day. Amenities at this hotel include 14 meeting rooms, a business centre, an indoor saltwater pool, a fitness centre, as well as a restaurant and bar. The hotel is a 1-minute walk to the Berri-UQAM metro station, which is the centre for 3 of Montreal’s 4 metro lines, as well as the Greyhound bus station, and a stop for the 747 airport shuttle bus, which takes travellers to Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport for $10. The Good
The majority of reviews read for this report were favourable toward the hotel which obtained good scores overall. The hotel was considered to provide a clean and comfortable room at an affordable price in an excellent location.

Most of the positive comments were directed towards the hotel location, which one reviewer described as “the crossroads to everything". The highlight for many guests stemmed from being attached to an indoor mall that provided nearby access to groceries, a drugstore, a food court for a $5 breakfast, shopping and restaurants. Another very important aspect was that the hotel was connected indoors to the major transit hub, Berri-UQAM Metro station which connects travellers to much of Montreal, the train station and the airport. Guests said they could travel in the winter without donning winter clothing to access attractions.

Some guest reviewers also commented on beautiful park and skyline views from their rooms, particularly on the higher floors. Guests also found the rooms to be clean with comfortable beds, although somewhat dated.

Overall, guests were pleased with the staff at this hotel, and found them friendly and conversant in English.

Some guests found the indoor pool and free Wi-Fi to add value to their stay and the general consensus of opinion was weighted in favour of good value at this hotel for the room price, in the reviews read recently for this editorial.
The Bad
The major beef about this hotel had to do with the tired state it was in overall. Several guests pointed this out in the reviews that were read for this report. Some guests focused on the bathrooms and said they were aging, one guest said the finishes were dated and another pointed out stained walls, peeling wallpaper and cracked tiles in the bathroom. A couple of guests added that the furniture was old, TVs were not HD and there was no mini-fridge in the rooms.

"A decent hotel with an excellent view, but..."

"The hotel caters to school groups in the summer - which means literally hundreds of children are using the restaurant and elevators - as a business person trying to go down or come up from breakfast - it was a nightmare and you need to plan an extra 10-15 mins accordingly. Rooms need updating - hairdryers and toilets should be reported by cleaning staff when they do not work properly."

"the breakfast buffet was great and so was the view from our room. However, I anticipate that a superior room would have been larger and pool hours could be extended."

"I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years. It was much ritzier in 1997 when I first stayed there. This visit was by far the least enjoyable (although nothing horrible to write home about), my most recent prior visit being in 2003. We checked in to 2 rooms only to find one room had not been made up from the previous guests. The hotel quickly found us another room close by to our second room. The blankets and bathrooms are getting old (although the bathrooms are still clean and the sheets still white), but the furnishings look as if they've been more recently replaced."

"My room on the 19th floor was very quiet. The AC was adequate, and the king size bed was very clean and comfortable..Nice view up Rue St. Catherine. Their buffet breakfast had nice variety, and was excellent each morning."

"Very convenient location for metro as well as Old Montreal. Parking for SUV's was a problem. The indoor garage levels were intended for small vehicles and larger cars were to park at an outdoor lot. After reading about break ins in outdoor lots, I was reluctant to park a new car in an outdoor lot. We managed to squeeze the SUV into an indoor spot on Friday and when there were no spots on Saturday night, the hotel offered us space in the reserved section. The concierge was very helpful with directions. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I would highly recommend it."

"The staff were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about Montreal and its attractions. My children and I enjoyed the restaurant very much. I especially liked the proximity of the hotel to Old Montreal and the Latin Quarter. We had a great time!"
