Editor's Analysis
Updated Feb 21, 2015
The Celebrities Hotel is located on St. Denis Street, in Montreal's lively Latin Quarter district, close to downtown, Old Montreal, and Chinatown, and is popular with budget-conscious travellers.

The hotel has 26 rooms and guests may choose from among 4 options: standard room with shared bathroom, standard room with private bathroom, junior suite, or a family suite. All rooms feature air-conditioning, telephone and a TV. The hotel suites offer more space and are ideal for groups of up to 4. Only twin or double beds are available in the rooms. The 4-storey hotel doesn't have an elevator.

Guests can use the hotel's free Wi-Fi in their rooms and in the common areas. Continental breakfast is included in the price of some rooms. The hotel does not have a parking lot, although there is a public parking lot about 3 blocks from the hotel.

The hotel is about a 7-minute walk to the Berri-UQAM metro station, which is the centre for 3 of Montreal’s 4 metro lines. The Berri-UQAM station is also home to the Greyhound bus station, as well as the 747 airport shuttle bus. The train station is 4 metro stops away, at Bonaventure station.

The hotel is less than 1 km away from many of Montreal's popular neighbourhoods, restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and other attractions. The Gay Village, St. Catherine Street, Chinatown and Old Montreal are all within a 5- to 10-minute walk of the hotel. Also within a 5- to 10-minute walk are the Grande Bibliothèque, Montreal's largest library, and the lively restaurants and nightlife of both St. Denis Street and St. Laurent Boulevard (all distances and driving time estimates: Google Maps).
The Good
Overall, the hotel received inconsistent feedback in the reviews used for this analysis. Some reviewers felt the hotel was good value for money, while some others felt the hotel did not meet their basic needs.

There were some reviewers who described the hotel décor as "quirky" and "cool", and felt their rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable.

Most of the positive comments in the reviews were directed toward the hotel's ideal location in Montreal's Latin Quarter, at the intersection of downtown and Old Montreal. The staff also received some positive comments for being friendly. One reviewer wrote that the staff and location were "the only good things about this hotel".
The Bad
Although some reviewers found this budget hotel to be good value for money, there were many comments from reviewers that the hotel was lacking in basic amenities and did not meet their expectations.

The most common complaint was about the bathrooms. The bathroom fixtures are spread throughout the rooms. The toilet is not behind an actual door, but is separated from the room by a curtain, while the sink and stand-up shower are located in opposite corners of the room. Many guests found the lack of space and privacy uncomfortable and inconvenient, and there were several comments that the hotel should not say that their rooms come with private bathrooms.

Many guests found their rooms to be small, old, and poorly designed. There were several comments about poor temperature control, poor lighting, broken handles and fixtures, exposed wires and other minor maintenance issues. Some reviewers also found the hotel's lack of elevator and on-site parking to be inconvenient.

Some reviewers felt the hotel was more like a hostel, and others commented that budget-conscious guests would be better off staying at a hostel, in a room with an enclosed private bathroom. One reviewer explained that, "If you're the backpacking/roughing it type, then this is a great place to stay on the cheap, but if you're looking for a 'hotel', this isn't it!"
