"Small room. But had all amenities. Not bad for a downtown hotel for short term stay."

"Felt Like a prison cell."

"The front desk was very nice and clean. The lady who checked us in was extremely friendly. When we got upstairs to our room we were a little surprised as to how small the room was. It was very outdated and the beds felt like they have been around a very long time. My wife went to wash her face in the sink. The sink drained very slowly until it sprung a leak from inside the wall. We used up all the towels to soak up the water. It kind of felt like when I was in my 20's and had my first cheap apartment where nothing worked well. We left early in the morning to catch a train and once again the staff were friendly. I told them about the leak and took pictures. They did not seem to be to surprised. Cheers :)"

"The room was small but for one night's stay close to Union Station, this place was perfect! I will definitely stay here again."

"so so..."

"The room was really tiny. There was no body soap for the bath apart from what was at the sink. There should be ice machine on each floor. How about paper delivery in the morning."

"The rooms are extremely small and uncomfortable. Housekeeping insisted on waking us up every morning around 8:30 a.m./9:00 a.m."

"No parking available. Breakfast very expensive, not worth the cost."

"I am appreciate of the consierge (sp?) and the front desk staff that helped me locate a hotel in North York, helped me borrow a knife, and returned a lost pair of sunglasses throughout my stay. A few not-so-great things: you had to pay for wireless internet; the water in the shower was ice-cold one whole day; there is only 1 ice machine in the basement (we were on the top or near the top); and there was no condiment machines on each floor (if I remember correctly). Would be nice to have an airport shuttle service! However, generally I think service goes the farthest. And for location and the general cleanliness/appearance, it wasn't too bad. Thanks, I will return, Deirdre & Mike Jasper"

"the staff (two ladys) in front desk of the hotel was very bad. From my face, I suppose they know I am from Asia. Maybe this is the reason that two ladys have a very bad attitude to me. I had a very very bad experience in this hotel. I will never come to this hotel. A lady working in Restaurant of this hotel is nice"

"Best service we've had in a long time, and special mention goes to Heather who did go the extra mile."

"The hotel is well located, closed to everything. The room is small but nice, fresh and clean."

8 out of 10 | Bryan stayed December 21, 2005

"Read the comments on how small the rooms were before booking but was pleasantly surprised on arrival; by no means are the rooms large but, at the same time, they are by no means tiny. Perfect for a couple spending a few days downtown. Location was very convenient; just about every place you'd like to go is within a 15 or 20 minute walk and, in case of bad weather, the entrance to the underground concourse is only metres away. All in all, lets call it an 8 out of 10."

"The shower was not working well and the generator outside made a lot of noise"

"good location, shuttle bus for airport right across the road also 24 hour sandwich shop across from hotel if you get hungry, there is also a very good pub which is attached to the hotel you can take the lift from the hotel straight to it in the basement level, serves good food and barman and waiter are good hosts."

"We were so impressed by the hotel, we would definitely stay there again and we will be recommending it to everyone. We were able to stay for $145.00 plus taxes which is amazing. Is this a special rate or is it this price always? The breakfast in the morning was excellent!! I give your place rave reviews. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to express our views."

"This hotel is good for foreigners who want to stay in the downtown."

9 out of 10 | Margaret stayed July 13, 2005

"Teh staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel is obvioulsy not geared toward families with children, more for business travelers but they made us feel welcome and looked after. No parking though so if your driving make other arrangements for your vehicle. Also, the continental breakfast was a bit sparse for $16.00 (CAN). Great location and service though."

"It's difficult to adjust the temperature of shower, it would be too hot or cold but it never gets WARM..."

"Hotel very clean but rooms cramped. Staff very busy and breakfast buffet cold."

8 out of 10 | Verified Guest stayed March 20, 2005

"The rooms were very small, which made them hard to move around in."

3 out of 10 | Verified Guest stayed January 23, 2005

"There was a power failure, there was no heating in the rooms, no hot water. It was very cold. During the night, as they tried to fix the problems, there was lots a banging going on. We did not get much sleep. The compensation that was given was a complimentary cold buffet breakfast."

7 out of 10 | Verified Guest stayed December 10, 2004

"Room was small and crowded. Breakfast was good and economical."

8 out of 10 | Justin stayed December 04, 2004

"The Strathcona hotel is an older hotel, but well kept and clean. Its in the heart of Downtown Toronto, three blocks from everything (business & entertainment) for easy walking, the PATH System (underground walkway & mall) has an entrance across the street and Union Station is kitty corner connecting you to the entire city and beyond."

9 out of 10 | Jacqueline stayed November 28, 2004

"The location of the hotel for the price is unbeatable. But I might upgrade to a queen-sized bed next time. The rooms are small but suitable for our purpose of having somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep in downtown Toronto. The staff were all friendly and acknowledged our presence with a hello, even the cleaning staff in the hallways. Everything was very clean, including the elevators. The breakfast in the York St. Cafe was tasty and very quick, but an ample serving. The only drawback is the cramped washroom -- I guess it's better than having to share a washroom European style, but the design and placement of the fixtures could have been better for the space available: my knees banged the toilet tissue holder. The washroom was perfectly clean, though."

4 out of 10 | Natasha stayed November 28, 2004

"I was really satisfied with the location of the hotel, but I was not too happy about the size of the room for the price that we paid. It did serve its purpose, and I appreciated the friendliness of the staff."

8 out of 10 | Brad stayed November 21, 2004

"Do not eat at restaurants. Value for dollar and quality is zero."

9 out of 10 | Stewart stayed August 04, 2004

"I found that there was no remote control for the television set. When I telephoned somebody (possibly the front desk) at about 4:55 PM and was told that a remote control replacement would be sent to the room, none was delivered. Fortunately, I had no desire to watch television during my stay in Toronto."

8 out of 10 | Valerie stayed May 22, 2004

"Room comfortable but rather small and could have done with a chair to sit on rather than the 'pouffe' that was there. Could do with better air-conditioning as if the weather had been any hotter it would have been uncomfortable, as the system is too noisy to have it switched on all the time. Also, the room faced into a 'well' at the rear of the hotel and lacked a lot of natural light.Nevertheless we had a very enjoyable stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Mark in the York Street Cafe and Gwen our room attendant."

3 out of 10 | Verified Guest stayed May 22, 2004

"the only good thing about this hotel was the location. the room was still small even after upgrading to a bigger room! one day, there was no shampoo replaced (but the housekeeper managed to remove a bottle that still had shampoo!), water wasn't replaced, the curtains look like they needed washing, the bahtroom door knob needed adjustment as did some other fixtures around the room."

8 out of 10 | Ted stayed February 14, 2004

"The Strathcona Hotel, with the Via Rail Station kitty-corner to it, is an excellent choice for weary travellors, especially for those whom are waiting to make a connection early the next day. The hassles associated with finding a taxi or the pressures of being on time for your departure are eliminated. I definitely urge everyone to try it. The rates are quite reasonable."

8 out of 10 | Raynald stayed February 13, 2004

"Small room and not too much place to hang clothes. Furnitures more than rare. I had 2 single beds in my room and the lack of space in the room for one person may be acceptable but not more than that."

8 out of 10 | May stayed February 01, 2004

"We'll be back! Enjoyed the quietness and size of the hotel."

9 out of 10 | Jean stayed November 04, 2003

"The decor is cozy. I felt I was in a bed and breakfast and I loved it. I would like to return sometime in the future and stay at this hotel."
