"the staff (two ladys) in front desk of the hotel was very bad. From my face, I suppose they know I am from Asia. Maybe this is the reason that two ladys have a very bad attitude to me. I had a very very bad experience in this hotel. I will never come to this hotel. A lady working in Restaurant of this hotel is nice"

"Best service we've had in a long time, and special mention goes to Heather who did go the extra mile."
Yvonne from Calgary, CA stayed on December 30, 2005

"The hotel is well located, closed to everything. The room is small but nice, fresh and clean. My stay will be much more enjoyable if the front desk staff has been more helpful. When I checked in, they said they did not have my reservation and because I forgot my confirmation number I had with Canadian Hotel Guide, they did not try contact you. My daughter had to call your office and arranged your office to call them yet they still left me a message that they didn't know your company, that they had not received any fax or email from you regarding my reservation therefore I had to pay full price for my stay at the hotel. Finally, I had to talk to the manager the last day before I left Toronto for him to straighten things out. It was very frustating otherwise the hotel itself and the room are plaisant. Thanks."

"Read the comments on how small the rooms were before booking but was pleasantly surprised on arrival; by no means are the rooms large but, at the same time, they are by no means tiny. Perfect for a couple spending a few days downtown. Location was very convenient; just about every place you'd like to go is within a 15 or 20 minute walk and, in case of bad weather, the entrance to the underground concourse is only metres away. All in all, lets call it an 8 out of 10."

"The shower was not working well and the generator outside made a lot of noise"
Ian from Carluke, GB stayed on September 25, 2005

"good location, shuttle bus for airport right across the road also 24 hour sandwich shop across from hotel if you get hungry, there is also a very good pub which is attached to the hotel you can take the lift from the hotel straight to it in the basement level, serves good food and barman and waiter are good hosts."
Karin from Brightsgrove, ON CA stayed on September 15, 2005

"We were so impressed by the hotel, we would definitely stay there again and we will be recommending it to everyone. We were able to stay for $145.00 plus taxes which is amazing. Is this a special rate or is it this price always? The breakfast in the morning was excellent!! I give your place rave reviews. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to express our views."
Margaret from Pine Grove Mills, PA US stayed on July 13, 2005

"Teh staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel is obvioulsy not geared toward families with children, more for business travelers but they made us feel welcome and looked after. No parking though so if your driving make other arrangements for your vehicle. Also, the continental breakfast was a bit sparse for $16.00 (CAN). Great location and service though."

"It's difficult to adjust the temperature of shower, it would be too hot or cold but it never gets WARM..."

"Hotel very clean but rooms cramped. Staff very busy and breakfast buffet cold."

"The rooms were very small, which made them hard to move around in."
Anonymous guest from Montreal, PQ CA stayed on January 23, 2005

"There was a power failure, there was no heating in the rooms, no hot water. It was very cold. During the night, as they tried to fix the problems, there was lots a banging going on. We did not get much sleep. The compensation that was given was a complimentary cold buffet breakfast."
Anonymous guest from Cobourg, ON CA stayed on December 10, 2004

"Room was small and crowded. Breakfast was good and exonomical."
Justin from Binghamton, NY US stayed on December 04, 2004

"The Strathcona is an older hotel, but well kept and clean. Its in the heart of Downtown Toronto, three blocks from everything (business & entertainment) for easy walking, the PATH System (underground walkway & mall) has an entrance across the street and Union Station is kitty corner connecting you to the entire city and beyond."
Jacqueline from Hamilton, ON CA stayed on November 28, 2004

"The location of the Strathcona for the price is unbeatable. But I might upgrade to a queen-sized bed next time. The rooms are small but suitable for our purpose of having somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep in downtown Toronto. The staff were all friendly and acknowledged our presence with a hello, even the cleaning staff in the hallways. Everything was very clean, including the elevators. The breakfast in the York St. Cafe was tasty and very quick, but an ample serving. The only drawback is the cramped washroom -- I guess it's better than having to share a washroom European style, but the design and placement of the fixtures could have been better for the space available: my knees banged the toilet tissue holder. The washroom was perfectly clean, though."
Natasha from Winnipeg, MB CA stayed on November 28, 2004

"I was really satified with the location of the Strathcona, but I was not too happy about the size of the room for the price that we paid. It did serve its purpose, and I appreciated the friendliness of the staff."
Brad from Toronto, ON CA stayed on November 21, 2004

"Do not eat at restaurants. Value for dollar and quality is zero."
Stewart from Saint John, NB CA stayed on August 04, 2004

"These are comments more for the "hotel management" than for other "users". 1. I found that there was no remote control for the television set. When I telephoned somebody (possibly the front desk) at about 4:55 PM and was told that a remote control replacement would be sent to the room, none was delivered. Fortunately, I had no desire to watch television during my stay in Toronto. 2. In regard to the drapperies in the living room, the "wrap-around" piece of cloth for one of the drapes was torn-out of place and was resting on top of the air conditioner. (I don't know what else to call it than wrap-around because that is what it does.) 3. There was a very small piece of gum (dentyne) wrapping on the floor in the bedroom."
Valerie from Purley, GB stayed on May 22, 2004

"Room comfortable but rather small and could have done with a chair to sit on rather than the 'pouffe' that was there. Could do with better air-conditioning as if the weather had been any hotter it would have been uncomfortable, as the system is too noisy to have it switched on all the time. Also, the room faced into a 'well' at the rear of the hotel and lacked a lot of natural light.Nevertheless we had a very enjoyable stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Mark in the York Street Cafe and Gwen our room attendant."
Anonymous guest from London, GB stayed on May 22, 2004

"the only good thing about this hotel was the location. the room was still small even after upgrading to a bigger room! one day, there was no shampoo replaced (but the housekeeper managed to remove a bottle that still had shampoo!), water wasn't replaced, the curtains look like they needed washing, the bahtroom door knob needed adjustment as did some other fixtures around the room."
Christoph from Egg.-leop., DE stayed on April 11, 2004

"If u take the special rebate rooms offered by this internet agency they'll give u a room no bigger than a bathroom"
Ted from Chase, BC CA stayed on February 14, 2004

"The Strathcona Hotel, with the Via Rail Station kitty-corner to it, is an excellent choice for weary travellors, especially for those whom are waiting to make a connection early the next day. The hassles associated with finding a taxi or the pressures of being on time for your departure are eliminated. I definitely urge everyone to try it. The rates are quite reasonable."
Raynald from Ste-marie, PQ CA stayed on February 13, 2004

"Small room and not too much place to hang clothes. Furnitures more than rare. I had 2 single beds in my room and the lack of space in the room for one person may be acceptable but not more than that."
May from Nanaimo, BC CA stayed on February 01, 2004

"We'll be back! Enjoyed the quietness and size of the hotel."
Jean from Johnson City, TN US stayed on November 04, 2003

"The decor is cozy. I felt I was in a bed and breakfast and I loved it. I would like to return sometime in the future and stay at the Strathcona"
