OverviewThe Ramada Plaza Toronto Downtown hotel is located on the west side of Jarvis Street between Gerrard Street East and Carlton Street in Toronto, Ontario. Yonge Street, the main strip in downtown Toronto, is two blocks to the west of the property.
Ryerson University, the College subway station, and the University of Toronto are all short walks from the hotel. Major tourist attractions like the Hockey Hall of Fame, the CN Tower, the Rogers Centre, and the ACC Centre are long walks from the main entrance of the property however they can be accessed more easily via public transit.
Facilities at the hotel include an indoor swimming pool with a hot tub, a fitness centre, a 24-hour business centre, underground parking ($22 per night), and a restaurant.
Standard rooms at the 100% non-smoking hotel come with either one king bed or two queens. Common room amenities include a 40" LCD TV, an ergonomic work desk, air conditioning, cable TV, in-room movies, hair dryers, coffee makers, and irons with ironing boards. There is also complimentary Wifi throughout the hotel.
The GoodGuests who stayed at the Ramada Plaza Toronto Downtown often enjoyed their stay and they complimented the guest rooms, the hotel's location, or the room rates.
Guests that were happy with their room often said that they found the beds comfortable or that they found the room to be quite spacious. Multiple guests used the word "huge" in describing their rooms and they were usually considered clean as well. Some guests said that they received an upgraded room compared to the one they booked.
The downtown location of the hotel was well-liked by some guests. Typically these guests were vague and did not say exactly what they liked but just called the hotel's location "convenient." Some guests that were specific mentioned Yonge Street, restaurants, public transit, and the Allan Gardens.
Guests who commented on the hotel's room rate were generally happy. They felt that they got a good deal for being in a central location. Having free Internet in-room improved the value of the room rate for some of these guests.
A peripheral compliment for the hotel pertained to the front desk staff who seemed prepared for arrivals. Multiple guests said that the check in was fast and efficient.
The Bad
The Ramada Plaza Toronto Downtown hotel received pretty mixed reviews overall. There were numerous complaints from guests who were unhappy with the guest room carpets, the hotel's location, and the parking fee.
A very frequent concern that guests made about the hotel had to do with the dirty and stained carpets. Even people who were impressed with the property occasionally mentioned that the carpets needed serious cleaning or even replacing. One guest described the carpet in his room as "disgusting."
The location of the hotel had many pros but it also had a major con. The con pertained to the fact that it was located in an area that was frequented by homeless people and prostitutes, according to some guests. Some who are familiar with the city were not taken aback too much. But people who were perhaps not used to downtown Toronto thought that the area surrounding the hotel was sketchy and left them feeling uncomfortable.
The last major concern that guests had with the property had to do with parking at the hotel. The lot's spaces were described as being large enough for SUVs and minivans but guests found the $22 parking fee to be hefty, especially if the fee was a surprise.
Some peripheral concerns for the property that were mentioned by multiple guests alluded to a bad smell in the room. Often this smell was identified as a residual smell of cigarette smoke despite the fact that the hotel was 100% non-smoking.
Some guests said that their guest room windows were dirty or that the bathrooms were small. A couple guests mentioned that the only ice machine was inconveniently located on the bottom floor of the hotel.
TripAdvisor.com ranked the hotel 59th of 120 properties in Toronto and the site had 278 reviews.
Booking.com guest ratings averaged to 7.9 points out of 10 and the site had 198 reviews.
Hotels.com guest ratings averaged to 3.7 points out of 5 and 74% recommended the property.

"Good Stay"
"I don't have very much to say. It's your standard hotel, no real complaints, except for the fact that the air in my hotel room was incredibly dry. It was a little uncomfortable in there at first, but they've got a strong fan that gets the air moving soon enough.
Good location, clean, great rooms, bathroom could use a tub, good service and free late check-out (which is always a plus!)"

"First of all, we had to go to the basement to get to the desk. This was a temporary arrangement and the clerk had to go thru a pile of boxes to look for things. I wondered why we had to pay up front. The room was dark, dingey with a view to a cement block wall. Prob. the worst place I've ever stayed in. Richard Lomas, Central Lake, MI"

"Our stay at Toronto's Ramada Hotel was a good experience. The staff was friendly and professional. Our room was clean and in excellent condition. We enjoyed its location as it was within walking distance to many downtown attractions. We will stay there again on our next visit to Toronto. The parking was a little pricey.

"If you're looking for a cheap one-nighter, stay at Ramada. But never even ever think you'll ever impress anyone by doing so! It was "just okay", but really though - there's a sign at front desk that says something about not leaving valuables in car or in room as there are frequent break-ins....if that's any indication...."

"Two nights out of the six were noisy. First night, young adult guests were talking and going from room to room until 4:30 AM. They were constantly asked to be quieter.
Other night, a conference was held on our floor, delegates were in the hall using their cell phones. Also in foyer talking. Things quieted down after midnight."

"Great stay the kids really enjoyed it, the room was big and comfortable for 4 people.Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was good
with a colouring placemat for the kids , our waiter was absolutely fabulous. Just one thing "blonds beware" the pool is heavily chorinated and there is some copper content in the water , my daughters hair turned green.Alittle inconvenient , but lots of internet suggestions on how to get it out. The ketchup solution worked in 2 days!!!! I'd stay there again."

"the staff were very courteous and helpful as we had car problems.... my only complaint was that the room was dirty.... spilled (splashed liquid) on some of the furniture a, cigarett butt the second day in the wash room on the counter, and a pop container and straw cover on the floor beside the bed and I also phoned for a clean blanket, (not the spread)... the blanket was stained terribly.... and the T.V. remote was missing....no city noises, and convient...i find having to pay for parking ridiculous, but the staff were excellent... the rooms just needed more attention..."

"The rooms are very dated. The door to the room did not close properly with out being pulled shut - resulting in housekeeping leaving the door to our room open for the entire day. Fortunatley nothing as missing however the hotel staff did not seem too concerned. The bathrooms are very poor - ie the toilet lid will not stay up with out being held due to vanity interference and the water leaked onto the floor every time you flushed."

"The lobby was nice, and we assumed the rooms would indicate that however the carpet was dirty but the worse was the bathroom. Enamel was peeling from the tub, the inside of the door was grungy. Clean bathrooms go a long way. This room was not worth $139.00. Had we been staying there for more than one night we would have asked to move to another room or for a discount."

"Very clean and fresh, enjoyed the facilities, hot tub sauna an steam sauna were very clean, worked fine, pool area was clean, only one beef about the pool, it was a little cold for swimming. Staff were friendly, desk clerk recommended a great Italian Restaurant called Angelinas just up the street. Great price also. Would certainly go back for a stay."
