Overview
Hotel Le Germain Toronto is located on the north side of Mercer Street between John Street and Blue Jays Way in Toronto, Ontario.

Facilities at this pet friendly hotel ($35 per night) include an on-site restaurant, a bar, a seasonal rooftop putting green, a 24-hour fitness room, and a library with both free Internet access and complimentary usage of a coffee machine that can serve cappuccinos. Breakfast is included with rates however an agent we spoke to said that guests can request for it to be taken off. Parking is available at the property and the cost is $38 per day (valet).

The hotel has 122 guest rooms and they include free wireless Internet access, flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations, minibars, fridges, irons, and ironing boards. Local calls are not free however an agent at the hotel said that the rates can vary (estimate: $1.40 per call).

There are six different types of guest rooms at the hotel with the lead-in room category designated as the Superior Room. This room has one queen, one king, or two double beds and is about 400 square feet in size. Other room types include the Luxury Room (475 square feet), the Executive Suite (635 - 775 square feet), and the two-storey apartment suite (1350 square feet).

The CN Tower and the Rogers Centre are both about 400m away while the St. Andrew subway station is 550m away (distances - Google Maps).

The Good
Guests that stayed at this highly rated property were generally happy with their experience and compliments covered a range of hotel features.

Several guests were impressed with the hotel's "killer" location which was described as "convenient for most parts of downtown Toronto" including points in the Entertainment District. Many guests found that they were "central" to "nightlife," public transportation, and "many restaurants and bars." One guest indicated that he/she was "near all tourist attractions in Toronto," most likely referencing the fact that the hotel was in close proximity of the CN Tower, the Rogers Centre, the Air Canada Centre, and the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The hotel included a free continental breakfast for guests and many patrons indicated that they liked it. One guest, for example, called it "lovely" while another said it was "outstanding in terms of variety and quality." A couple other guests said they "always" enjoyed it while one really impressed patron said the continental breakfast "was probably the best (he/she) ever had at a hotel."

Guests who described their rooms generally seemed to be impressed. They were often called spacious, clean, and/or comfortable. Lastly, some guests felt the hotel had a "modern look."

The Bad
Guests that complained about aspects of this hotel were in the minority. However some guests who did not totally like the hotel complained about the rates or noise from the neighbourhood.

Guests that complained about the rates usually felt as though they paid an "expensive price." The cost of parking didn't help as one guest indicated that he/she was "put off" by the extra charge. Another guest called the hotel a "converted office or apartment building" and felt it was "definitely not worth the price."

When it came to noise at the hotel, opinions were pretty mixed. Some guests who complained about noise blamed the club/bars in the area. For example, one guest said the hotel was "very noisy on weekends due to the clubs across the street" while another guest said that there was "raucous noise" "from around 3PM to 2AM."

Occasionally guests complained about other features of the hotel. A couple guests felt that the "gym was small" or even "tiny." Lastly, a couple other guests thought that the room temperature was hard to regulate.

Chantal from Lorraine, QC CA rated Hotel Le Germain Toronto 7 out of 10 on April 05, 2005 Verified Guest Hotel Review

"I found it quite pricey although I absolutely loved the room and the shower. And appreciated opening the window ever so slightly to get some fresh air in. I'm not sure, though, that I could justify staying with the hotel again in the future if I'm not in town with or for a customer who's staying there as well and is willing to pay for it afterwards."

Kevin from Rochester, NY US rated Hotel Le Germain Toronto 8 out of 10 on May 23, 2004 Verified Guest Hotel Review

"Parking was too expensive and I had some unknown "media and marketing" charge on my bill of $7 a day. They really should address that. But this is still a very charming hotel that is an oasis of comfort."
