Time and time again patrons indicated that the hotel "was too far outside of Toronto," that it was "no where near downtown," or that getting between downtown Toronto and the hotel required a long ride or expensive cab fare.
Several guests felt as if the hotel was old or dirty. One guest indicated that his room "had a serious bedbug problem" and another adamant guest indicated that he/she was "VERY dissatisfied with the cleanliness of (his/her) rooms." Many guests described deterioration at the hotel and examples included "wall paper peeling off walls," "cracks" in tiles, and "stained" carpets.
Numerous guests also noticed an unwanted smell at the hotel. Often this smell was identified as the smell of cigarette smoke whether in rooms, in corridors, or in the halls.
The staff at the hotel were not consistently described as friendly or helpful. They were often depicted as being unresponsive to problems and one frustrated guest, for example, said the "staff (were) as cold and unfriendly as it (got)."
