The Good
Reviews were somewhat mixed with some liking the hotel and some finding it a little too old and busy. Guests who liked the hotel typically enjoyed the central location and found a clean room with a comfortable bed.

Guests liked the convenience of the location. It was close to the Eaton Centre mall, a variety of restaurants, downtown attractions, nearby hospitals and public transit.

Guests often found the staff very helpful and friendly, although this sentiment was not unanimous. Bell, security, concierge and the valet staff seemed to stand out as the best in the hotel.

Renovated rooms looked like the pictures online, but not all rooms were renovated, nor did they resemble the pictures online, according to reviewers. Guests who enjoyed their rooms had usually occupied the renovated rooms and they described the rooms as well cleaned with inviting and comfortable beds. Some guests on the higher floors enjoyed city views and some could see the CN Tower in the distance.

Adding value to the stay were: the outdoor rooftop sun deck which offered a very nice city view (with CN Tower in the distance), the family pool with waterslide, the complimentary face painting, popcorn and lemonade in the lobby for kids, the special check-in area for kids and the live bunnies in the Kids Centre.

The Bad
Sentiment over the hotel and its services were rather mixed in the reviews with some guests finding the hotel not meeting their expectations.

Although guests seemed satisfied with the renovated rooms, the unrenovated rooms were displeasing to guests and even the renovated rooms sometimes had areas that had not been renovated such as the bathrooms and balconies.

Recent room complaints were: rooms were small and tired; poor cable channel reception; rooms, carpets and furniture smelled musty; carpets were worn, matted and dirty; double-size beds were small with hard mattresses; bathrooms were grungy, dirty and worn; poorly maintained and dirty balconies; and not enough electrical outlets for charging electronics. Guests also often mentioned slow tub/shower drains and no extractor fans in the bathrooms along with rooms that had not been properly cleaned or vacuumed.

Noise was often an issue for guests. They cited noise from traffic, sirens, revving engines, honking horns, loud music from clubs, AC units, hallways, plumbing sounds, the service elevator and guests coughing or showering in nearby rooms.

No mini-fridge or microwave in the rooms was a source of discontent for guests. One recent guest said, “I called ahead with two requests, a couple of extra towels and a mini fridge if available - neither were in our room or acknowledged.”

Wi-Fi did not seem to reach all the rooms and guests often complained of poor Wi-Fi connections. One recent guest wrote, “Also, the wifi is ghastly. Sporadic at best. Forever disconnecting.”

Long line-ups at the check in counter and elevator were often a source of complaint. Some said that the elevator service was insufficient for the size of the hotel and besides being older and slow, some of the elevators did not work at all. Guests described having to carry luggage, babies and strollers up and down stairs and also having difficulty accessing the underground parking facility due to some elevators not working.

Other common area complaints were: hallways had matted carpets, were filthy and outdated, the hotel was very dusty (picture frames and mirrors), the pool area was too hot and pool or hot tub were not clean, family pool area had rusted stairs leading up to the waterslide and the gym felt like a steam room—overly humid and hot as it was located in a glassed-in area along with the adult-only pool and hot tub.

Some complained of very expensive and poor quality breakfast as well as food choices at the Market Garden and T Bar Lounge.

Guests complained of poor staff interactions with overly busy, unknowledgeable, grumpy, arrogant and rude staff members.

Guests often felt the hotel was a poor value for the price especially in high season, but perception of value depended on the price paid and how it compared to other hotels in the downtown.
