The Good
Reviews were mixed with more guests offering positive comments and scores than negative ones (in recent reviews sourced online). It seems that the hotel is older and in need of upgrades, so guests who got the older rooms were more displeased than guests who got the rooms that were in better condition or recently renovated.

Overall the rooms were judged as clean and serviceable.

The hotel was mostly appreciated for having a convenient location, close to the hospital, Laurentian University, the Science North museum, as well as south-end restaurants, shopping and groceries. One recent guest mentioned that it was close to a kids play park.

Guests were typically pleased with the restaurant on site. It was convenient, well priced with large portions and served a good breakfast.

Some guests enjoyed the pool and hot tub area which they described as clean and decent.

Guests who had pleasant stays in the nicer rooms were typically pleased with the value and found the room rates reasonable.

The Bad
Guests opinions were mixed overall and there were several areas of weakness where the hotel needed to improve.

Many of the rooms were showing their age and recent room complaints included: dirty carpets that smelled, mould in the bathroom, hard mattresses, uncomfortable pillows, sheets not fitted to the beds and had holes, freezer in mini-fridge frosted over, AC/heating units were loud, not cleaned and ineffective, walls visibly dirty, accessible room not truly functional for the handicapped, worn bath towels, musty smell in rooms, dirty bathroom, dark room, filthy room, mattress had a hole in it, pet room was disgusting and rooms were not like the pictures online.

Occasionally guests found the convenient parking spots taken up by Perkins customers.

Some guests complained of noise disturbances from: plumbing, the elevator, the electrical room, stairway door slamming loudly, outdoor traffic, the parking lot, housekeepers in the hallways, hockey players running in the halls, and guests in neighbouring rooms.

Other recent complaints about the hotel were: elevator slow and sounded broken, elevator not functional at all, hot tub too hot, pool looked dirty, no towels in pool area, and hallways were dark.

Staff were sometimes described as courteous and friendly and sometimes as rude and unfriendly.
