The Minto Suite Hotel is located on Lyon Street North, in the heart of the downtown Ottawa business district. This hotel is a 4 minute drive (or a 14 minute walk) to the Parliament buildings.

This all-suite hotel has 417 suites and offers both smoking and non-smoking accommodations. All suites offer wireless Internet ($9.95 per 24 hours), kitchenettes or full kitchens, sofa beds, in-room safes, individual climate control, irons and ironing boards, flat screen televisions with on-demand movies, and washers and dryers (in select units). This hotel does not allow pets. On-site underground parking is available for $19 per day during the week, and $9 per day on the weekend. The hotel also provides free bike rentals.

On-site amenities include a 24-hour business centre, fitness centre, and a pool (adult-only time from 9:00pm - 11:00pm).

The on-site restaurant, Prime 360, is a steakhouse and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and brunch (on the weekends). Monday - Friday the restaurant is open from 7:00am - 1:00am, on Saturday the hours are 8:00am - 1:00am and on Sundays, 8:00am - 11:00pm.

This hotel is located in downtown Ottawa, however, it may not be ideal for tourists looking to explore the city on-foot.  The closest tourist attraction is the Parliament buildings. Other attractions such as the Byward Market (all-season farmer's market, boutiques, and restaurants), Rideau Centre, and Rideau Canal are about a 20 minute walk away from the hotel, while the National Art Gallery and Canadian Mint are about 25 minutes away on-foot. The Ottawa International Airport (YOW) is about a 20 minute drive from this hotel (walking and driving time estimates: Google Maps).
The Good
Guests seemed most impressed with the size of their suites at this hotel. Many reviewers described being surprised with how spacious their units were, while one guest said she was "wowed".

A couple of guest reviewers specifically mentioned enjoying the configuration of the suites and how the kitchen was separated from other living spaces. In-suite amenities such as the microwaves, coffee makers, washers and dryers, were mentioned as added value features by a few guests. Reviews frequently described the suites as clean, well appointed, and comfortable.

The customer service at this hotel was also praised by several guests who described the staff as friendly and efficient. One reviewer said the staff "made her stay" when they sent a card and a bottle of wine to her room on her birthday.

A few guests were impressed that the hotel offered free bike rentals for touring around Ottawa. Many reviewers found that the neighbourhood immediately surrounding the hotel provided many added conveniences, such as restaurants and grocery stores.
The Bad
Of the reviews used for this analysis, there were only a few common concerns.

A few guests complained of smelling cigarette smoke in their rooms. One guest, who had requested a non-smoking room, suspected that her assigned room had previously been a smoking room.

A couple of reviewers described the underground parking facility as confusing, while a few other guests found the parking fees expensive.

Cleanliness inconsistencies were a concern for a few guests. A couple of reviewers described finding items and garbage left in their rooms by previous guests, while one couple who stayed at this hotel said, "it was evident to us that the cleaning staff had cut corners." Another guest complained that her room was not adequately stocked with towels.

"Minto Suite Hotel Experience"

"Our Experience with Minto was exceptional. When we got there not guest rooms were left so they immediately upgraded us to a suite and we really enjoyed the amenities and the service. I recommend Minto Hotel to anyone looking for a good hotel downtown Ottawa. The only drawback is the long wait at the elevators."

"Apart from a very long line at the check in everything went very well. Finding our way to the parking garage which was though a shopping mall and seemed to be under an adjacent building was a bit confusing"

"hallway cleaning needed"

"I noticed while waiting for the elevator that the baseboards around that area were not being cleaned regularly. Otherwise an excellent time there."

"great hotel, good location and very affordable prices"

"everything you need is right there at the hotel, grocery store, pharmacy, pool, work out area, bar and restaurant, wine store. room was great, large and very comfortable, and clean. good location, only a short walk to Parliment buildings and down town sites. one of the best features was that nothing there was over priced."

"The only complaint I have, and it's not a very big one, is in my room (suite 613) the A/C was very loud. It was the only thing that I can complain about and I'm a heavy sleeper so it wasn't that bad for me. Other than that, everything was top notch. The staff there was pleasant and wonderful as was the rest of the hotel. If I ever return to Ottawa or go anywhere that has a Minto Suite Hotel I would definitely return."

"A Great Hotel!"

"My boyfriend and I are in our mid twenties. The Minto Place was perfect for our weekend getaway to our nation's capital. Their studios are spacious and very comfortable. The location is close to all the tourist attractions, shopping and the nightlife downtown. I would recommended this hotel to anyone and everyone!"

"Very happy with our stay and would definitely go back!"

"Excellent location - 15-20 min. walk to Byward Market. Huge salt water pool. We stayed in a basic suite. The room was clean with small kitchen inc. microwave, sink, fridge. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Parking was only $8 underground. The only downfall is that the hotel was extremely busy and you had to wait a long time for the elevators, even though there were four of them (my husband waited 20 minutes for an elevator at 6:30 pm Saturday night). Would definitely stay there again though!!"

"We had an excellent stay, the staff did go the extra mile! We definately would return as our stay was too short. The pool facilities were very nice. We received an upgraded suite for our family. The staff was unaware, but this became a beautiful gift to us for my University graduation."
