Located in Ottawa's east end, about an 11 minute walk from St. Laurent Shopping Centre, this hotel is popular with guests who seek comfortable, basic accomodations, slightly removed from the downtown Ottawa area.

There are 69 rooms in this 2-storey hotel. Guests can choose from various bed types and configurations. Included in all rooms is WI FI, a coffeemaker, a hair dryer, an iron and an ironing board and an LCD TV. Mini-fridges and microwaves are available on request, for a charge of $10/day. Free parking is available on site. Pets are welcome (maximum 2 pets per room) at this hotel for no cost.

There is no on-site restaurant, but a complimentary continental breakfast is offered in the lobby daily.

This hotel is particularly well situated for shopping and dining, within walking distance to a variety of restaurants, big box stores and a major shopping centre.

Guests looking to visit major tourist attractions will likely need a vehicle. The Museum of Science and Technology is about a 10 minute drive down St. Laurent Blvd. The Aviation and Space Museum is just over a 10 minute drive away. The downtown Ottawa area, and a cluster of major attractions including Parliament Hill, the Byward Market and the Rideau Canal are all about a 15-20 minute drive from the hotel.

Guests travelling by air should budget about 24 minutes to travel the 18.2km between the hotel and MacDonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) (distances and driving time estimates: Google Maps).

Check-in is at 2:00pm, while check-out is at 11:00am.

Confirmed with a front desk agent: WI FI, breakfast, parking and pet policy (call date: June 28, 2012).
The Good
Convenient location and comfortable rooms were some of the frequent comments made by guests who enjoyed their stay at this hotel.

Location was a positive factor for a number of guests, who felt that its proximity to the highway, as well as its proximity to a wide variety of restaurants and to a major shopping centre was convenient. In relation to the highway, one guest said that the hotel was "easy to find".

A number of guests also felt that there was good value for the price paid for the hotel. When describing the hotel, words like "reasonable" and "affordable" were reflective of guest sentiment.

According to the guest reviews used for this analysis, this hotel was particularly popular with pet owners, who made reference to how pet-friendly this hotel was, especially as there was no extra charge. Additionally, guests indicated that there was ample clean green space outdoors in which to walk dogs.

There were a few additional comments on things like the convenience of having a patio door in ground floor rooms and good customer service.
The Bad
For guests that had an unpleasant experience, complaints were mostly directed at unpleasant odours in the hotel, and a lack of detailed cleaning in some areas.

Some guests complained of bad odours in some of the rooms and the hallways, which some suspected were from previous pet guests or from cigarette smoke.

Guests said that common areas, particularly the lobby, were not well cleaned. They mentioned dirty carpets in the hallways, and the need for decor in common areas to be updated.

While several guests felt that the proximity to the highway was a positive feature for the sake of convenience, a few guests felt that there was an abundance of street noise from traffic.

There were a few peripheral comments on things like spotty WI FI connections and poor quality of food offered at the complimentary breakfast.

"Google Map gave wrong directions and then we found major street disruptions with missing signs to get to hotel. The hotel was satisfactory. On a par with other Comfort Inn's we've used elsewhere. Basic comfort with friendly staff. would use again."

"stayed at a Comfort Inn in Ottawa my first day of vacation, I like it so much I booked another night online for later that week. I ended up booking with the wrong Comfort Inn (Which I didn't know until after I had paid for this one) The worker said they didn't get my reservation request online and she was very quick to find me a room. I will think twice before booking online again, it is such a hassle to get your money back when there is a probably with the hotel. I hope they will give me my money back, Sinse I did stay at a Comfort Inn."

"I travel from Winnipeg to Nova Scotia each summer and stay at Comfort Inns along the way..for the past 8 years, the Ottawa Comfort Inn has been the worst;;it's tacky; the carpets are stained, the clerks never seem to know what to do and lack warmth. The service always appears to be begrudging. The air conditioners make a racket all night and the rooms are grungy. And, even though I had a non smoking room, all the corridors stank of smoke. The place is dirty. I have finally decided not to stay there again. However, the other Comfort Inns are fine..I would like to make note of an employee named "Margaret" who was on duty on the evening of June 25th at the Comfort Inn in Thunder Bay. She went very far out of her way to assure that I was comfortable, to provide assistance and to be very gracious. She really deserves credit. However, I would strongly advise anyone to avoid the Comfort Inn on Michael Street in Ottawa."

"This hotel is difficult to find in the dark. Plan to arrive in daylight hours or have a good idea of where you are going."
