The Good
Positive reviews typically mentioned the location, cleanliness, room size and the good value for money spent.

Many guests found this hotel ideally located for visiting local tourist attractions on-foot. Several reviewers mentioned that they did not use their vehicle for the duration of their stay. A few guests commented that they found everything they needed within a couple blocks of the hotel.

Of the reviews used for this analysis, most described their rooms as spacious and clean. A few guests added that their rooms were well maintained and well appointed with modern decor. A couple of guests who stayed in the executive suites were impressed with the large size of their rooms and the configuration of the separate kitchen and bedroom areas. A couple of reviewers also specifically mentioned that their beds were comfortable.

The room rates and value offered at this hotel were also complimented by many guests. One reviewer said that this property was, "under half the price of somewhere like the [nearby] Sheraton or Fairmont".

Other positive reviews also noted the helpful and friendly staff and the quality of food served at the on-site cafe.
The Bad
The most common complaint among reviews used for this analysis was the cramped parking facility. Many guests were frustrated with the narrow spaces available and the first-in, last-out parking system employed by the hotel. Several guests described having their vehicle blocked-in by other guests or the valets. A few reviewers were also unhappy that they were required to leave their keys at the front desk so that the valets could move their cars if necessary.

Many guests also found the hotel in need of upgrades. One reviewer described the general appearance of the hotel as "bordering on shabby", while other guests described finding chipped and worn furniture, damaged bathroom tiles, old televisions, scuffed hallway walls, and poor lighting throughout the property.

A few reviewers found the front desk understaffed. One guest said the staff were unable to respond promptly to routine requests, such as replenishing towels. Another reviewer complained that, "it took 30 minutes to check-in."

Other negatives noted among reviews included slow elevators, disruptive street noise, and dated equipment in the on-site fitness facility.

"Go just for the location"

"This hotel is only good for its location. Its just a 5 minute straight walk to the parliament hill otherwise its not recommended for families. As soon as we arrived, we were told we had to pay $ 20 for parking per day. after arguing with the reception, they waived it off and mind you, the parking is a 2minute walk so if you have too many bags, its a hassle again. the parking is actually in a world exchange plaza and apparently we found out it is free on sat & sun. Our room had damp carpets and god knows when and how they were cleaned. Shower curtain had a stench and had asked them to change which they obliged. Other facilities nearby are a subway, tim hortons & the plaza where there is a shoppers and food court. Its only The location which is very convenient if you are doing stuff around parliament hill."

"Capital Hill Hotel"

"Picked this place because of location. It was mostly clean with very few amenities. Found the interior room and halls run down and old. The parking was inexpensive but it was half a block away underground. The staff were friendly and mostly helpful but the elevator stopped working and was not fixed (very poor for people on upper floors)."

"Parking is horrible. Once you're parked in a spot, don't expect to get out for the duration of your stay. Cars are double and triple parked."

"Fabulous location with basic accomodations!"

"We just stayed for 2 nights while in Ottawa searching for an apartment near U of O. The location is awesome- a short, beautiful walk to just about anywhere in the downtown area. The suite we had was good value for 4 of us. We slept well and were right where we wanted to be during the day. There are few extras but the staff were helpful, friendly and we would go back."

"I was very pleased with the service provided at the hotel. After an unexpected turn of events, the hotel staff put themsleves at our disposal to correct the situation. This helped make our stay at Capital Hill Hotel and Suites quite enjoyable. It is also one of the best hotels in terms of value that I have ever stayed at."

"A bunch of jackasses run this hotel. How many times should you have to complain about a broken toilet without them doing anything about. And the coffee pot leaked.... And they locked us out of our damn room after one day of a three day stay..... Grrrrr....."
