Overview
The Howard Johnson Hotel Toronto Markham is located on Cochrane Drive and just to the northeast of the intersection between Highway 407 and Highway 404 in Markham, Ontario.

Facilities at the hotel include free parking, elevators, a business centre, a laundromat, banquet rooms, conference rooms, and meeting space. There are also several recreational facilities at the hotel including a restaurant (breakfast not included), an indoor heated pool, a fitness centre, a sauna, and a bar/lounge.

There are 172 guest rooms/suites at the three-story property and units include both smoking and non-smoking options. Bedding arrangements at the hotel are either one king bed, two double beds, one queen bed, or two queens.

The Good

Guests that stayed at this hotel had mixed feelings about the property. The main strong points of the hotel appeared to be its location, the prices of the room rates, and the recent renovations.

Guests that liked the hotel's location were mainly happy that the hotel was close to highways. Many guests mentioned that the property was "close to the 404" or Highway 407. Occasionally guests also mentioned that there was shopping available near the hotel.

Many guests also seemed to think that the hotel was competitively priced. Multiple guests indicated that the rates that they paid were "very reasonable" or "decent."

Another compliment that the hotel received had to do with its recent renovations. Some guests offered their opinions on the renovations and for the most part, the updates seemed to be successful. One guest, for example, said the "improved areas (were) very nice" and another guest said the "newly renovated rooms (were) of exceptional standard."

The Bad

Guest complaints regarding this hotel were common however some of them had to do with the perceived age of the hotel. Many of these complaints could be viewed as outdated based on the fact that the hotel has gone through renovations.

The hotel did receive some complaints about the staff, people who were described as unfriendly. One guest, for example, said the hotel employees were "not the friendliest" he/she had ever "dealt with" and another guest said "the front desk people were unfriendly" and didn't want to help.

Occasionally guests also complained about the smell of smoke at the hotel which one guest called "a major turn off." Also there were complaints about fluctuating shower water temperatures that went from hot to cold.
