Overview
The Econo Lodge City Centre in Kingston is a 2-floor accommodation, conveniently located near Queen’s University and perfect for the traveller on a budget. Unfortunately the praise for the property more or less stops there. Numerous complaints were found regarding a wide variety of issues from guest reviews from all sources used for this analysis. This property averaged roughly 6.5 out of 10 points (on 10 point scale) and just over 3 out of 5 points (on 5 point scales).
The GoodSome reviewers felt this property to be a good value for the money paid. Other options in the area were said to be considerably more expensive. The location on Princess Street was praised for the proximity to downtown and Queen’s University. According to numerous reviews on Booking.com the room was clean and comfortable (however it is important to mention that some reviews from other source said the opposite). For the most part, customer service was said to be friendly and accommodating, however there were a few isolated reviews that gave detailed accounts of being treated poorly by rude staff.
The Bad
Despite some praise, room cleanliness was an issue to some, in fact on more than one occasion reviews mentioned blood stains and cigarette burns in the bedsheets. Broken and poor quality toilets was also an issue for more than one guest. Complaints found on both CanadianHotelGuide.com and Booking.com mentioned the room did not have a coffeemaker, which contradicted what was allegedly advertised. Bedding was an issue, as more than one reviewer mentioned that the king size bed had queen size sheets. There were many compliments regarding the friendliness of the staff, however there were a handful of reviews that gave detailed accounts of how staff were rude and treated the guest poorly. The complimentary breakfast, according to some guests, was bland and not worth staying to eat.
