The Good
This hotel was very well liked by its guests who were often quite impressed with its quality and service.

Many guest rooms have been renovated and guests described them as very clean, classy and well appointed with very comfortable beds. Guests especially enjoyed the Jacuzzi tubs, rain showers and great harbour views. Guests also loved the pastry, snacks and drinks on the Crown Floor.

The location was great. Guests liked that it was an easy walk to some of Halifax’s best restaurants, shopping, the convention centre, the citadel, the boardwalk and harbour and the Public Garden. One guest said there were no steep hills to climb when coming back to the hotel as there were walkways to the water front that could be used. Public transit was easy to access to and from the airport.

The staff were excellent and this was a highlight for many. Guests said they were very friendly, engaging, attentive and made guests feel welcome. One guest wrote, “We were treated like royalty. A terrific stay; we will be back!”

Gio Restaurant was enjoyed by guests. Guests said it offered high quality gourmet food that was attractively presented with excellent service. One recent guest recommended the tenderloin. The bar area was described as having very nice décor, comfortable seating and a good selection of drinks. Room service was also well reviewed. One recent guest wrote, “We ordered room service and all the food was excellent - great truffle fries, nachos and seafood chowder.” Breakfast was equally enjoyed and considered great value at $16 per person.

Guests enjoyed the pool and hot tub which they said were very inviting, open until 11:30 pm and were very well cared for.

Parking at the hotel was convenient. Self-parking offered easy and unlimited access to an underground lot and there was an elevator from the parkade to the lobby. Guests who chose the valet parking said it was brilliant and efficient.

The Bad
Guests critiques were somewhat scattered through the reviews with no apparent theme dominating.

Recent room complaints were: bathroom grouting needs to be replaced, pillows too big, sound travelled from the ducts, Crown Floor rooms could be given a more modern feel, outdoor AC unit for the hotel could be heard in one of the rooms, nearby construction carried to the room and noise travels from the hallways to the room from closing doors and guests talking.

Hotel complaints were: terrace sits in the afternoon shadow, the Crown Floor hallways were dated, a small gym, hated paying extra for parking, dining and drinks were pricey and poor signage to the underground parking.
