"To charge $24.23 for a 12 minute call to Cape Breton is extortionate to say the least.. Using a phone card that I purchased later I could phone the UK for 6 cents a minute."

"I have to make one comment, an outstanding comment actually.
During the first night of my stay it seemed as though the cable from the back of the TV had popped out. No biggie one would think. But from the looks of it someone had tampered with it before and it had become more or less completely impossible to connect back to the TV. I called the front desk, they sent someone up (Luke) to take a look at it. He did, he tried to fix it but when that failed he simply took the TV out and brought in a new one!! I was utterly impressed. The staff deserves a great big thank you!"

"My son David and I were in Halifax for the Junior National Debate Tournament. The Hotel was within walking distance of The Sacred Heart School, which is why we chose it. From our arrival to our departure five days later it was an absolute treat to be there. The staff were attentive, cheerful and very knowledgeable on all of our requests. Certainly, a place that I would recommend and stay in again. Keep up the great work!"

Paul from Toronto, ON CA stayed on December 02, 2004
"room service both in terms of food quality and efficiency of service was execrable
maids were belligerent and all but tried to drive one from the room when they wished to clean it
heating was inordinately noisy and appeared to possess only two states : too cold or too hot
the reception of my pay-per-view movie was so poor at times that I could not make out what was happening and have no idea how it ended. Although I complained, nothing was done and I was still charged.
I found the extra fee for use of hi-speed internet to be abusive and a practice not followed in the hotels with which i am familiar (and which charge comparable room rates -- Montreal's Germaine, for example, or Toronto's Drake)
The lack of a mini bar was also dismaying.
I am in fact a travel writer (though, relax, I was not in Halifax for that purpose), thus familiar with many hotels, and indeed interested in the components that go into making a good or great hotel (I have contemplated going into the business myself, and may do so).....so I find it sad when a place with the Nelson's charm, location and potential has been allowed to wither into low mediocrity. It could become THE Halifax hotel, and i feel Halifax has a great future itself thus will require such a key venue. I could tell someone precisely how to transform it too....is it for sale? Does the existing owner want a partner? I am seriously interested in such a project, even as consultant, because I know the end result would be deeply satisfying. My e-mail is paul_william_roberts@rogers.com (web site: http://www.paulwmroberts.com). I grew up next to Nelson's own home in Wimbledon, so have a soft spot for the Admiral myself. Be nice to give him a hotel he could again be proud of naming. Thanks for the opportunity to express my views. I hope more comes of it."

"The hotel was recommended to us by friends and it proved to be a very good hotel in a good location. For serice and amenities it was every bit as good as other hotels we stayed at during our trip and at a comparable price."

"There is a new apartment building being built next door so expect construction wake you up at 7am and continue throughout the day. Ask for the garden view as it may be quieter. Otherwise an enjoyable stay."
