The Good
Guests generally seemed to be happy with this hotel and its service. The rooms, the breakfast, the staff, and the location all received regular compliments.

The guests who liked their rooms typically described them as clean and multiple guests said that they were spacious. Many guests approved of the view from their rooms as they liked overlooking the Bedford Basin.

Guests who spoke well of the breakfast were numerous. Many positively appraised the quality of the food with multiple guests appreciative of the fact that breakfast included waffles.

The staff at the hotel also received compliments. Typically guests called them friendly and/or helpful with hardly any complaints implying the opposite.

The hotel's location was also well liked by some guests. Part of that had to do with the hotel's setting across from the Bedford Basin but some guests liked that they could get into downtown Halifax reasonably fast.

Some guests also said they liked the price of their room rates. These guests found the charge reasonable or even great.

The Bad
Guests who stayed at this property generally seemed happy with the service that they received. However some guests still had complaints and they usually referenced the age of the property.

Some guests said that they thought that the hotel was old while a couple other guests said that the property needed renovating. One guest described the hotel as run down while another implied that the bed spread needed replacing.

Other complaints were somewhat sparse but some guests did mention noise at the hotel. These guests frequently blamed the source of the noise on other guests. Occasionally guests who did not use the elevator found the stairs to be particularly bothersome or awkward.

"OK BUT NOT GREAT"
"THE BED WAS QUITE COMFY, BATHROOMS NEWLY UPDATED SO NOT TOO BAD...BREAKFAST WAS RATED POORLY..WE HAD TO GO OUT ELSEWHERE TO EAT. CARPETS WERE DIRTY AROUND THE EDGES SO THAT INDICATES NOT VERY METICULOUS CLEANING BOTH IN THE ROOM AND ALL HALLWAYS. THE HALLWAY LEADING TO OUR ROOM SMELLED OF CIGARETTE SMOKE SO THAT WAS CURIOUS SINCE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE IN A NON-SMOKING ROOM. IN GENERAL THE COST OF THE ROOM WAS A BIT HIGH FOR THE STANDARD EXPECTED AND BREAKFAST SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED WHEN BOOKING IN THIS HOTEL...NOT WORTH ANY EXTRA ROOM RATE"

"The outside seats could have been maintained better, and of course the noise of the traffic which we appreciate they can do nothing about was loud. All in all it was very comfortable and would certainly stay when in halifax again."

"loves it."
"so, me and my partner came in before our room was ready. we had chosen a double-bed-smoking room because it was cheaper. we were exhausted and needed to nap. at no extra cost, we were upgraded to an available hotel room that had two queen size beds, a microwave, fridge, tv, etc. we were able to get the nap we so desperately needed and our trip was kept on track by the fact that the friendly woman at the hotel desk wanted to help us out. as a newfoundlander, i highly value hospitality and helpfulness, and this comfort inn helped to show me that nova scotian hospitality is a force to be reckoned with. fabulous hotel."

Gina from Hamilton, ON CA rated Comfort Inn Halifax 9 out of 10 on August 10, 2006 Verified Guest Hotel Review

"The first night of our stay, we had driven in from Pleasant Bay on the Cabot Trail. It had been a long and grusome ride with severe thunderstorms on winding up and down hill roads with fog and little visiblility. By the time we got to Truro it was 830 pm and we were afraid to proceed. We called the hotel from a welcome center to inquire if we would still be charged if we had to cancel. The girl said it would be up to the manager the next day. We had arranged the rest of our trip to be spent at the Econolodge, but I even asked if perhaps we could stay at another Econolodge or Choice Hotel in Truro. She replied that they were privately owned. I was all set to cancel not knowing if I would be charged or not, when I started asking her about the weather in Halifax. She responded that it was clear, so consulting with my husband while still on the phone, we decided to proceed. We arrived quite late, but I was so impressed with the hotel, it was like an oasis in the desert after driving 8 long and testy hours. I feel Econolodge should have a policy in place, so it is not "up to the discretion of the manager" whether I would have had to pay if I cancelled one of my several night's stay. I also had planned my trip as time contious as I could, and many of the hotels I delt with kindly told me there was no fee if I needed to cancel the day before, if we chose to stay somewhere an extra day. Surely Econolodge and Choice is a large enough company that they don't have to resort to charging a $6.00 fee for any cancellations that are made 24 hours prior to check out. I had also arranged an Econolodge in Summerside PEI, because it was a week before my trip and a lot of the accomodations seemed to be unavailable. After booking, I found an available hotel (Rodd) in Charlottowne PEI, which was where we really had wanted to stay. Econolodge charged me a $6.00 fee and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Last March I stayed at a Comfort Inn in Orlando for a week, and they had a program where if you stayed there so many nights, you could earn free nights. I understand you have a point system, but I would have found this other system more favourable and we stayed in hotels on this trip 15 nights. I would have loved to have called and stayed at all Choice Hotels throughout the Maritimes, if it could have been within my price range of $120.00 per night especially if I could have earned a free night! Just some suggestions and thoughts. I did love the Halifax Econologe, and have already recommended it to several of my friends."

"The soundproofing between rooms is poor. E.g., the fellow in the next room fell asleep with his TV on, and it sounded as though the TV were in our own room. I ended up knocking on his door at 3AM to ask that he turn it off (he was nice about it, fortunately). We could also clearly hear the folks in the other adjacent room. Otherwise, this Econo Lodge is great: big picture window with great view of the water above Halifax, excellent (and inexpensive) breakfast, extremely nice staff, clean room and public areas. And 10 minutes from downtown Halifax which, since we had a car, was perfect for us."

"We ate breakfast at the hotel 2 mornings-price reasonable, service very good. One morning had a bus group, which made the waiting time a little long. Our room was small but comfortable. Pool was fine. Also enjoyed the front veranda and the beautiful gardens. Wonderful view of the water. Altogether a good stay."
